All you need to do is buy the Nav system from either a Freestyle or 500 (or any Ford that's double din, the Freestyle/500 look the nicest). If you want a shiny metal looking one, get the Lincoln one. You can get these for a decent price from www.radiosandmore.com. http://www.radiosandmore.com/prod_de...=6F9T-18K931-A
$1375 for the nav unit
~$50 for the antenna
~$275 for the maps
Owners manual you can get on PDF I'm sure
Programming is an extra charge too, very reasonable.
I am planning on doing this mod, I just need to do my full suspension first.

For me, while I know aftermarket will have more features and capability, I am after the OEM look. Plus, I need something that has a volume ****, not buttons.

Epia Mini ITX with 1ghz proc.
512 Mo Ddr2 ram
120Go 3"5 HDD
Lilliput 7" Touchscreen (subaru mount kit)
Wireless logitech keyboard & mouse (in case i need to use it)
a box with power, made for car, using the 12v
a usb gps receiver.
an odb2->serial, box + cable coming from palmer performance
Actualy i'm writing my own frontend (fully compatible with Road Runner). Because in some case it's too slow for my taste.

Bump, just curious if you got it to work alright?

It's a good thing I brought a printout of this thread to the service manager at my local Ford dealer, since when I first mentioned installing a Ford navigation unit into my Mustang, they were puzzled.
I'll have it installed when I bring my Mustang in for the 5,000 mile service, as I was told that this would take 1/2 day. They'll need the original head unit as well.
At this point, I still don't know where the GPS antenna will be installed. The navigation unit is installed on the top of the dash compartment on the Explorer and Expedition, and I didn't see anything that looked like a GPS antenna.
I'll post a full writeup when it's installed.

My dealer reported some issues in programming my navigation head unit. It won't accept data from my Shaker 500 head unit. I can connect the navigation unit to my Mustang, although with the following issues:
The door subwoofers do not work, nor do the speed-sensitive volume or the backlighting. Also, for some reason I can't set the clock on the navigation unit.
The navigation unit uses a different radio antenna connector. Interestingly, I used a Chrysler antenna adapter.
At this rate, I might cut my losses and install a Pioneer or Eclipse navigation system instead.
