What is the "phone" button above AUX for?

I didn't see any area for general discussion for 05-09 Mustangs, but figured I'd ask here. When I hit it, it just says "No Phone". My father has a 06 GT and his has a phone icon and it says mute, and I believe it actually just mutes all audio in car. But what is the point of this phone button?

It's a generic radio face button. Not all radios come equipped with the phone option. Yours is a lower model with the button but not the ability.

Do you have the upgraded Mach or shaker system? Look for a Mic in your visor.

Hey tu3218,

The info provided by texastboneking is correct. Depending on the year and model, we've had radios that are compatible with or without the phone system. If yours has a display of NO PHONE then you do not have the phone system. I also found this in the ’06 Owner Guide under the Entertainment System section:
2. Phone/mute: Press to mute the playing media. Press again to return to the playing media.

okay thanks, just I wish mine would mute then lol. Mine just says "No Phone" when pressed. Its as if they got to the stereo part and just skipped over the bluetooth phone feature.

I did some research on this about a year ago. There are 2 pieces needed to make the phone function work. When i found the part numbers on the internet, i phoned ford and asked them how much they were, if memory serves right, it was in the 4 to $500 range.

No problem. If you’d like, PM me your VIN and I can research yours in specific and see if there is anything you can do to either use the “phone” feature if available or find how to mute it.

yeah, yugoboss that's a little more then I would want to spend just so I could have bluetooth calling. If it had A2DP then maybe but if not, definitely no. Thanks for the info though.

Phone button

We just purchased a 2009 45th anniversary gt mustang with a shaker 1000 system. Beautiful blue with silver racing stripes and premium package.

You mentioned about a microphone in the visor. Is this located in the overhead lighting console? It looks as if there are 2 microphone spots in thus.
