want to replace the base stereo...
First off - with audio stuff - I'm a newbie!!!
I have an 06 GT with the base stereo. I'd like to upgrade it and I don't want to break the bank - because I'll be putting $$$ into the engine, etc... I was thinking of getting some stuff from Crutchfeild and installing myself.
I'd like a new head unit that is better than the base unit and can handle controling an iPod. I also would like to upgrade the speakers. My initial thoughts on a budget are in the $500 range - but I am flexible.
Or will I be able to get into a system like above and throw in an amp to kick up the sound a bit - I like I said, I don't know much about this stuff - please educate me!!
What are my choices - and thanks for helping out a newbie!!!

Try ebay, you'll save a lot over crutchfield prices. I have about $650 in mine for new in the box equipment which includes: Hifonics 600 watt amplifier, Sony CDX-M8815x head unit, Scosche 12" subwoofer and enclosure, four MB Quart 6x8 coaxials.
