Trying to decide if I want to tint my Satin GT. Does the factory solar tint block out UV rays? I don't want my red seats to fade from the sun. Looking at the factory glass it say's "Solar Tint" or something like that. Does the factory glass block out the suns UV rays that would cause fading damage?

There is a type of cleaner/protectant called Formula 303 Aerospace protectant. It is supposed to completely protect leather and vinyl from UV rays. I have been using it on my leather seat in my '98 for years, and I am amazed at how they have not cracked, split, or hardened at all. I really like the stuff.

 

The factory windows already come tinted. They allow 70% of the sunlight usually through which means the window is lightly tinted 30%. You can tell by rolling the window halfway down and peering at an object through the window and then through the open space of the window. This lightness of a tint usually does not help "fading" or cracking of leather and dashboards. Be careful of laws though as most states with the exception of Florida to a certain percent do not allow window tint on the front 2 windows (LF & RF). The tint def. does help out in summer time though with the belief that if you have windows tinted your car will be hotter due to the blackness but in actuality it reflects even more UV rays off. Say if you were to get you windows tinted 20% ... this means 80% of sunlight and UV rays are blocked out while 20% is allowed through. That is on top of the already tinted factory window. While the tint on the factory window is nowhere nearly as strong as aftermarket window tint it still blocks out additional UV rays. Hope this helps.

Go for it - you won't be sorry.
Just know your local laws and don't go too dark. I am in Florida and the only stickler rule is no tint on the FRONT windshield under the A1 line....

 

I'll be getting 35% on top of the factory tint. If you are ONLY worried about UV, they make UV blocking clear window tints that block 99% of the UV but almost none of the visible light.

Keep in mind, my mother never had tinted windows on her car. She finally got the windows tinted to 40% (I think...). She LOVES it. It only took about two weeks before she took the pickup down and had it's windows tinted. One comment to me was "I can't believe I waited so long to try tinted windows." YMMV.

 

I am tinting mine now after seeing a Windveil Blue with tint this weekend. It made the looks of the car in my opinion.

 

After having tint on a previous car for 2 years, I have decided I don't care for it.
When the sun hit the car at a certain angle - during the morning and late afternoon, the windows had a purplish tint to them. Also, they got some nicks on them, which makes them look like crap after a while...

Also harder to see out at nite...

 

the factory "tint" is barely noticeable, and lets almost all of the light in. I got mine tinted a while back, looks great and only cost $150!!

tint it, I got 35% on sides as per state law in mo. and then 20% in back which is one step above limo tint. Looks amazing. Wouldnt have it any other way.

 

anybody find a fix for the tint scratch problem...

Don't roll your windows down J/K, I've got to search and see what was posted about replacing the strip that's there with felt I think because mine are getting scratched :bang:

 

If you don't like the look of the regular tint maybe you shoudl consider a different color?

I'm thinking about the Bronze tint myself. Does anybody have any pics of that?

 

There have been topics discussed about the window tin scratching within the last week or so. Just try to search very good results .

Well the only solution ive found is to replace the window chanels w/ ones that have felt on them....
