I was just using the mobile-ease picture as a reference as to what it might look like. We have no photos of the accessory sync yet. I will be meeting with our accessory rep this week and might have more info then.

HUGE pain in the butt...
As far as I know, the sync as an accessory is going to be a HUGE pain in the butt. No microphone is wired in overhead, and must be, no USB ports are wired into the console and they need to be there. How big of a hassle will the accessory sync install be?

I just spoke with some rep's at Ford corporate over one of our broadcasts, and it appears that my accessory rep was incorrect, i apologize. As it says in the compatibility chart, Sync will not be available as a factory option for 2008's except for the Lincoln Navigator... And they claim they cannot be retrofitted back to previous years or other cars because of the radio technology.
They said it might, unoficially be possible to retrofit Sync into 08's, or other previous model years if you have an '09 Radio. I have jumped through some hoops and hopefully can get in contact with a Ford engineer and find out a solution for us.

Microsoft could make a killing off this thing is they opened it up to the after market.
How much does an 09 radio cost? I'd imagine way more than anyone would want to spend on a factory radio.
Does ford offer an external CD changer? Would be great if they could hook it up through that interface if it existed.

Like I already stated, you need more than the radio.

in my 2008 there is a removable pannel in the console next to the coin holder, i wonder if thats to wire up USB ports? also, there appears to be a microphone in the overhead area near the map light... I wonder if this is for sync?

I would be very surprised if that were the case. I worked as a Service Advisor at a Ford dealership before I came here. Attended some classes on Sync - where we were all told it would never be a dealer installed option. The system is very integrated into the rest of the car, and would require pretty much an entire re-wire of the whole vehicle. Sync has capabilities well beyond what it has right now - or so we were told.

I spoke with the VP of vehicle personalization at Ford last week and got an off the record answer about this. The Sync kit for 2009 will work in a 2008 Job 2 Mustang with Nav, and probably regular radio, but you won't be able to talk to it. You will be able to use the USB drives, browse selections on screen, use bluetooth phone and talk and hear through the vehicle's speakers. But you will not be able to use the voice recognition to talk to the car and tell it "play track etc".

2008 Job 2 - That's me! Got the nav with the phone button and I see what looks like microphones built in near the map lights.
As long as I can also hook up my Zune and control it through the radio, i'm in!
