my friend helped me install mine... actually i just got in the way. i was taking off the the screws and stuff on one door like stated in the instructions. he was working on the other door. he didn't take off the panel at all. just took off the screw for the "cup" the handle is in, removed the handle and put the new one on. he was wrestling with something for a few seconds, but before i knew it he was finished.

i started putting the screws back on the door that i was working on.... he came over did the same thing and he was done.... pretty much the same time i was finishing putting back on the last screw i had removed. i never really got to see what he did. the panels never came off though.

OK finally getting around to put the SHR inner door handles in.......I am stuck with trying to get the cable out of the old handle as some of you stated was the most challenging part.

I thought I would stop tonite and come back to look at this thread as I remember some of you stating this problem. I will try out what Spike (AKA Mike) has advised on

Anyone else have any tips on getting that cable out?

Google "2005 mustang speaker installation" and you find a couple of links to youtube video's shown how to remove the door panel. In one it shows how to do it using needle nose pliers ...

The 'other half' had both in, in about an hour or so. I was wiring up the rev camera on the GT, only had to assist once or twice.

Guys, just to be clear, the needlenose pliers on the cable is exactly how to quickly get the cable out. I've done this job for customers in ~20 minutes at the shop when I'm "in the mood" to get it done quick. I don't like doing the handle from the pocket only, because it can damage the door panel if not done carefully / properly. It is a faster way to go, but I can ge tthe door off so quick, it's not worth the risk to me.

Anyway, I just saw this thread since we've had a very busy show season this summer, and I have not had a lot of time to "surf" the forums. Remember, anytime you have a question on one of our products, we're only a phone call or email away. And in the case of a thread like this, unless you send a link or something, sometimes we just don't know it exists to try and help. Sounds like it all has gone well though, and thanks for the orders!

Just an FYI guy's , in case someone else does what I did. After taking my panels off several times for different projects , I finally broke the plastic tab piece the cable clips into. The outside half of it broke , so it was like only a half circle was left. At first I though I was screwed , but I took a large washer whose hole was about the same size as the hole had been in the tab before it broke. I put the cable through the washer and hooked it to the handle and the pressure holds the washer against what's left of the tab. So far so good ...

OK I managed to get one side done and have removed the cable on the other side......but now I am wondering what is the best way of getting that **** cable back in?

I did one side but can not get the second one back in.....maybe the first one was a fluke for me?

Hook the cable into the handle and pull back on the plastic housing to expose more of the cable and then push just the cable through the slot into the hole ...

The way I do it is like this...

1) Hook the end of the cable into the door handle.
2) Rotate the cable back towards the plastic mounting point, at the same time pulling (extending) the cable like as if the door handle were in the open position.
3) Set the cable in the mount, then snap into place by pushing forward until it clicks in place.

If you're trying to have the cable already mounted in the door panel before attaching to the handle, you're making life hard on yourself. Install it into the handle first then pivot to the door mount, and it'll happen in a matter of seconds for you.
