For those of you that have replaced your Shaker 500/1000 with an after market head unit...how hard is it to do?

I have replaced stock systems before, but never with a Mach/Shaker "system" in it. Can I just change out the head unit...or do I have to run new wires and remove the factory amps?

I will be putting in an Alpine CDA-9835.

I would think you might have to bypass the stock amps in order to go aftermarket on the Shaker, like you did on the Mach system.

A little background first.

Base and Shaker 500/1000 systems are a different breed altogether from previous Mustang audio systems. This marks the first use of a Delphi sourced audio unit in the Mustang (Henry rolls in grave again) after Ford sticks the knife in Visteon's back for the ?th time. This also means all new wiring harnesses, output voltages, sensitivities and equalization.

In answer to your question, I believe at this point you will need to wire around the amps as there is not an adapter harness to step down the Alpines output or adapt it's pre amp outputs at this time. You can probably contact Crutchfield for information on adapters that may work. As with creating any hybrid Factory/aftermarket audio combinations, noise (radiated or otherwise) may be a concern.

 

I forgot..
As far as actual dash disassembly, the shift bezel, console, center stack, side trim and finish panel must be removed-about 1/2-3/4 hr time to get radio out of dash (work slowly if you are not familiar with the way this car is assembled.) Contact me for instruction if you need it.

Are you shure the Shaker system isn't Visteon or at least a hybrid setup? Because I know for a fact that the midbass doorwoofer enclosures and Shaker 1000 trunk enclosure are designed and built by Visteon. They actually won an industrial award for them...

hmmm...anyone know how hard it is to bypass factory amps? I will eventually be adding alpine amps, but wanted to run the speakers off the head unit for the time being.
