My new setup - So far....

Here are some pics of my new head unit, and setup. So far I have added a Sony CDX-F7700 Head Unit, XM. I have ran the cables/wires for the amp and subwoofer and will get that hooked up soon. I also replaced the whip antenna with a smaller one from Pep-Boys (it looks alright, but might get other ideas). Stock speakers will be replaced by some Infinity Kappas. I ordered the GT Deluxe so I do not have the sub pods on the door panels. Pics to follow.....

Did you install yourself? If so, did you have any problems fitting the Kappas in the doors? I'm getting Kappas all around as well, but a couple places have told me that they are just barely too "tall" to fit between the mounts and the door panels. Did you get the buy a pair, get a pair 1/2 off deal on the speakers?

I put in the Head Unit, XM myself. Wasn't too hard for those items. I do not have the speakers yet, but that should be soon. I had the XM stuff, sub, and amp from my other car so that saved me some $$. HU was $210. I think I'll try to put the rear speakers myself. The doors look a bit tricky so I might need a bit of help with those.
As far as mounting the speakers...
The Kappas 572.5CF have a mounting depth of 2 3/8.
Ref 6802CF is 2 9/16.
Both are top mount speakers.
Rockford has a set with top mount of 2 3/4 or bottom mount of 3 1/8.
So if the Rockfords will fit then the Kappas should do so as well. This is going with what Crutchfield says. Hopefully I will have my complete setup running soon. As long as it sounds crisp, clean, and a nice low end I'll be happy.

Rockford has a set with top mount of 2 3/4 or bottom mount of 3 1/8.
So if the Rockfords will fit then the Kappas should do so as well. This is going with what Crutchfield says. Hopefully I will have my complete setup running soon. As long as it sounds crisp, clean, and a nice low end I'll be happy.

Hey, that looks great. I was hesitant on not getting the shaker because I thought I might need to keep the head unit since an aftermarket might not look right in that oversized opening. Where did you get the mount kit?

I got the Kit and harness from audiooutfitter.com. It was like $12 for the kit and $10 for the harness. I could not find it locally for a decent price (Best Buy, Circuit City) so I went to the net. Shipped quickly as well. The Kit was the Schosche FD1424B, the harness was the Schosche FD23B. Thes items are the same ones used for the Ford F-150. The kit fits like a charm, no gaps, works well with the current interior.

Mounting height is the height between the rim or tweeter of the installed speaker and the factory grille or panel. While it is often enough a fit issue, it is usually a small enough measurement and in such a difficult place that most people can't measure it accurately. I'm not sure that's the reason it isn't posted like depth is, but it could be considered sufficient.

It's funny that Crutchfield does not list anything about "mounting height" in the specs. I'm going to hit my local audio shop with Infinity's and check them out again. I also sent a e-mail to Infinity to see if they could clear this up.

So, was it 6x9's on the rear deck and 5x7's/6x8's on the doors like you thought? I don’t think I’ve heard a concrete answer on this.
Also, how big is that sub? I am unsure if I want to do two 10's or one 12. But then again I have yet to look at the trunk so I don’t know how much space there is. Can you clue me in on what would fit? Thanks.

The Mustang fits 5x7/6x8 all around.
I'm only putting one 10" in the trunk as I'm just looking for more bass clarity and less boom.
As for the Kappas, I think their tweeter is a little "taller" than some other brands. I might be modifying my door panel to accomidate those extra 3/32" (2.14mm)

I am really not sure my self now. I could go as low as two 8’s. Maybe a 10” or two or even a 12”. I am not sure at this point. . I want some boom but I don’t want one of those systems built for the people outside of my car I care more about the sound inside. I really don’t know how big the trunk is and what kind of space these will take.
