Does anyone know if this head unit, can be wired to work with the factory speakers, amps, and subs? I am getting the shaker 500 (may switch to the 1000), and want this headunit to use with my iPod; but I really don't want to get aftermarket amps and subs. Sorry if this is a dumb question; I am a car audio noob.

You probably can, but it may be too powerful for the Ford stuff.
I know, I may be putting my foot in my mouth by saying this, but I know that some car stuff operates on very low power.
Once again I'll defer to the experts.

I have that alpine head unit in my explorer with the stock speakers and it made them sound a lot better as well as decreasing the distortion tenfold. I'm 90% sure it will work with the shaker systems, either way its a great head unit.

does your explorer have the mach system? I am trying to figure out if the head unit will work with the amps and power the subs...I am sure it will be ok for the speakers.

awesome....I am stoked now. I was afraid the head unit wouldn't power the speakers, via amps. That I would have to bypass the amps and subs.

Check with your local stereo shop or Crutchfield.com. They sell adapters that allow you to hook into factory wiring. the brand I have used in the past is Metra, but, I think others exist. They make it easy. You just have to wire the head unit to the adapter plugs, then plug them into the factory plugs. They also make the adapter plate for the in-dash unit to fit the Factory mustang dash.
I have that units little brother (CDA-9827) it is really sweet. It also plays MP3, ipod, etc.
You will probably find that the head unit is way better than the factory amps and speakers/subs. It would be a good start to make the factory stuff better, but, you may eventually want to replace the rest of it to unlock the potential of the Alpine. I wouldn't pay the money for shaker 1000. You could do alot better with aftermarket stuff for the same money.

Oh I am....I listed my system waiting to be installed in other threads.
But money is tight right now...so I wanted to get the headunit, adapter, and ipod...and see if I could hook it up temporarily untill I can get mu Alpine amps, MB quart speakers, and JL sub in.
