Ok, I have been searchig the forums for about an hour...and I can't come up with an answer. I know someone has posted before about how to remove the stock stereo (to then install an aftermarket) but I cannot find it.
Every search term I type in yields no results. :bang:
anyone?

And have no fear Surfn, it's cake, dare I say even fun. The parts just pop off! How do I know? Well, last weekend I was a bum and let the guy at the audio store convince me it was better to pay them a little more over the Crutchfield price to have them install it. It took them five hours (but I went shopping with the wife), and they still charged me for the harness and DIN adapter (unlike Crutchfield). On top of that they used the wrong harness (didn't wire the subs)! So I ended up having to tear it all apart myself once to figure it out, and another to put it together the RIGHT way after ordering the full $30.00 harness from Crutchfield so I could get the sub harness. All said and done, I spent a few hours on it myself and I'm out $120+. So much for their "premium installation"...
If you're hooking up the Alpine 12V remote lead to the stock sub amps, you're going to need to do the 5V transistor mod this guy did --- http://www.dennisjudd.com/archives/000947.html
My sub harness arrived last night, hooked it up and sure enough, "POP". So I'm going to Radio Shack on my way home.
Enjoy your Alpine - it will blow the Shaker 500 - believe me.

Chris your the man! I got both Metra harnesses...so that my door subs would work.
So I guess I need to do this resistor mod then.
thanks for the confidence and the tip on that!

I'll let you know my results later tonight.
For some reason I found the power lead next to the white RCA wire was the one that powered the subs, not the one next to the red RCA. Maybe I didn't understand his instructions...Anyway just check it before you crimp or solder!

Trust me. Once you get a descent head unit in, you will become quite disheartened with the factory speakers and amps.
