Rearview Mirror Project
My photochromatic mirror does not work properly with tinted windows. The plan is to turn the compass button into an on/off switch to change from normal to dark. Haven't opened it up yet, but I'm assuming I'll bypass the photodetector by shorting the two wires and then running them through the compass button. Then I'll leave the compass function on all the time.
Has anyone tried this yet?

I don't know where you got the $800 dollar price from...you can pick one up from eBay for as little as 30 clams.

It's too slow to react to light changes. My eyes are very sensitive to lights at night. When it doesn't sense light, the mirror is clear...then it takes too long to darken. I would like to be able to control it manually.

Why not just find out how to adjust the sensitivity on the mirror? It seems that would be the best/easiest way to go.
Another thought... could the mirror be defective?

I agree, I notice it in both cars. Sometimes I have to turn the mirror away, because it just won't go dark. It might have something to do with driver height, mirror angle, and your eye sensitivity. My wife doesn't have a problem with it at all.

I just thought of another possible solution:
Maybe put a small piece of black electrical tape over the sensor on the back. It may react faster that way...I'm not sure.
