Rear deck speakers hidden on Shaker 1000?

I have a 2007 GT Coupe w/ a shaker 1000 system. I noticed that the speakers on the rear deck are not visible, not even cut out. My friend has a 2006 that has nice covers over the rear speakers. I would have to imagine that the speakers would sound better if they were cut out.

Anyone else with the shaker 1000 have "hidden" speakers on the rear deck???

Sorry, I don't have any pics at the moment. It just looks like there are no speakers on the rear deck. Just flat carpet. However, if you pop the trunk and look underneath the deck, the 2 5x7 speakers are there.

So, they no longer have the plastic grilles in the rear window? Sounds like a cost-cutting thing of Ford's part. There's no need to cut anything. Sound will travel through the carpet with no difficulty. It may be a bit muffled over like 8khz, but you really don't want that from the rear anyway. So it's all good. If you must have the grilles, I'll trade you my rear-deck cover for yours. I don't need the covers, and I would like just the simple carpet.

Thats weird? I have an 05 with the shaker 1000 and I have speaker grills back there. Is it possible that someone screwed up when they built it?

From: St. Louis Area
Just saw a Shelby GT500 in the showroom yesterday at Sunset Ford in St. Louis. The GM said it was the first one in St. Louis, and one of the first ones built. I too noticed there was no rear speakers in the deck, and it had a 1000 system in it. I couldn't investigate too closely since it was under lock and key, and they were pretty protective of it. (understandibly)
