Rear Deck Speakers

Has anyone replaced the speakers in the rear deck? If so, how difficult was the R&R?

Thanks

Really I haven't even looked at speakers yet. I did my door speakers because I had blown one of the OEM speakers. I just purchased some inexpensive 6x8s at Walmart. The install was simple

Wow that sucks! One of my friends has a new camaro and he said the same thing about his. Seems like they just aren't worth the effort.

Depends on what year you have, 05' to like 07' is simple, after that you have to take everything apart. Well worth the effort if you get some good speakers. I got the Kicker KS68's, they are a direct replacement for the factory speakers and pretty much the best. You can find them online for around $65 shipped if you look.

EDIT: The Kickers come with all needed installation stuff. The harness from amazon was the wrong one.

I dont know what your overall goals are, but in my opinion, if you get some good front speakers and amplify them correctly you dont really need to bother with the rear ones. They are more for sound fill than anything else. I guess it also depends on if you have the 500, 1000, ect.

Crutchfield says they do not fit in the doors did you use them in that location?

I replaced the rear speakers on my 05. The rear seat bottom, coat hooks, and side panels had to come out to lift the rear deck and access the rear speakers. Overall he process isn't bad.

Once all the panels are out, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put sound deadening material on the rear deck, and run cables (power, RCA cables, remote wire, etc) to the trunk for future stereo upgrades you might do later. I will post pics later on as well.

On an 05-06, it's real easy. I put Boston acoustics speakers in all the factory locations in my car. All I had to do was pop up the speaker grille, unscrew the old speaker and screw in the new one. I bought mine from crutchfield and they came with plugnplay wiring harnesses. On an 07+ though it's more difficult because you have to take apart a bunch of the trim apparently.

My mistake...you do not need to remove anything except the grill to replace the rear speakers on an 05. I removed the panels to lay down sound deadener in the rear deck area.

Did this a couple weeks ago. Looked like I had to pull everything from the rear seats to the side panles to get the rear ones out of my 05, so I did. Seems I put more effort in than I had to lol.

I hear ya. I didn't even check to see if the grill came off until AFTER I took all the panels out. At that point I said to myself, might as well take advantage of the removed panels, and lay sound deadener and purchased an amp kit.
