HELP! Power on password for Kenwood DVD head unit

Is anyone familiar with how to reset a newer Kenwood head unit password? I recently had to jump start my car and now my unit is asking for a password. Problem is......I never activated that feature so I do not have a password! It is a 4 digit code. I have tried all of the obvious codes: 0000, 1111, ...., phone numbers, address, ssn, .....

The unit is the DDx712 and is very nice by the way (at least when it was working!).

By the way, I have disconnected my battery prior to the jumpstart when installing my amps and the password thing did not come on. I really don;t want to have to ship the bugger off to get it fixed.

thanks in advance. Brian

Call customer service with the serial number, I bet they could save the shipping charges.

That just it, I don't want to have to remove it to ship it. Most of these head units have a series of buttons you can press in order to defeat the passwords. I was hoping someone had come across this in the past and could offer some assistance.

you ever got it fixed? if not try this... not sure it will work but i googled and this came up... worth a shot:

KENWOOD SECURITY CODE CLEAR procedure

Your radio will require one of the following procedures.

Type 1
During the code request mode, while holding the DISP key depressed, press and hold the Volume UP or DOWN key for 3 seconds (so that “…” disappears).
Then using your remote enter your code.

Type 2
Press the "Auto" button and "Track up" on face of radio at the same time. The four dash lines ( . . . . ) should "disappear".

Then using your remote enter your code.

Type 3
Model# DPX-4020 and DPX-4030
Press and hold the 1 then the 6 preset key (preset keys are the buttons on face of radio for storing you "favorite" radio stations). "C" should display.
Then using your remote, enter your code.

Enter your number from the remote control unit. Your code number is 5227 (KCAR)

* Press numeric key “5” ( 2 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key
* Press numeric key “2” ( 3 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key
* Press numeric key “2” ( 1 time ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key
* Press numeric key “7” ( 2 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key

The security is canceled and the set enters the TUNER mode!

if "kcar" does not work, then try "3051"

Thanks for the responses. I had tried the KCAR code previously, but this unit doesn't allow alpha characters (does not have the ability to enter alpha characters I should say). Anyway, I called Crutchfield and they suggested reseting the unit. That sounded like a ridiculous idea but it ended up working. Apparently, since I never actually gave the unit a code, even though the feature was in fact set to "on" by default, no code would have unlocked it. Reseting the unit did just that, it reset it back to factory default. Had I given it a code and forgotten it, then I would have had to ship it out.

Thanks again.
