PAC C2R-FRD1 to Replace Shaker 500 questions. Please Help!!
Hey,
Im going from my 2006 Gt Shaker500 to Pioneer Appradio using PAC C2R-FRD1
The PAC connector has: brake, reverse and illumination wires in it.
1) Do I connect my Pioneer HU's brake and reverse wires to them or do I have to tap somewhere els? (I understand that if I had a ford SUV with dvd and back up camera the SUV would be prewired for those, but a Mustang does not have either)
2) I always heard nightmares about using the "illumination" wire on aftermarket HUs, is the PAC safe? shoild I connect that wire too?
Im not bypassing the brake wire until there is a hack for the Appradio.
(The Appradio knows through the iPhone when you are moving, there for the bypass is not going to work)
Please please let me know.
Thank you!!

I would strongly suggest that you put a diode in serie with the amp powe on wire . Failure to do this can cause you radio to shut down if you drive the amps a bit too hard.

Here's the details regarding this issue:
After a little bit of diagnosis/trouble shooting with an engineer at PAC we found that the Shaker amps are backfeeding 12v into the C2R-FRD1 unit when at high load (we speculate this was originaly to tell the Ford HU to lower volume output). This is causing an overvolt condition in the C2R-FRD1, the elctronics are designed to operate at 5v. So when 10+v was put into the unit the chips started to malfuniction and then shut down. The Diode keeps the voltage from backfeeding the unit, I used a 1N4005. I think you can get these at your local Radio $hack, we have several thousand on hand LOL! Anyway the diode did the trick, no more cut-outs, no more reboots! YAY~~~~~

I just did mine, i installed an AVH-P4300DVD and did the diode fix, you can get the intructions including a diagram from the PAC website, when you select the C2R-FRD1 under technical bulletins are the instructions and diagram on how to wire the diode, all crystal clear.
