New Seats

I have a question for people that have put in new seats. Once you swap them out, do you lose power seat capabilities? This is a deal breaker for me.

New seats on existing powered seat rails? New seats with manual rails?

Most folks just put new upholstery on their existing seats ...

If you buy aftermarket Cobra seats or Corbeau seats. Do they work with your factory power seat equipment?

Not a whole lot have done that yet, its more of a racing mod. I know there are a few at Modded mustang and Mustang forums but its still few and far between....

To swap to a bucket style seat, I am willing to say you will lose the options since the seat is not made for these options. I am not saying you could not fabricate something, we all have creativity and imagination for sure!

The way we used to swap stuff around on older cars (Fox, 71-73, etc) was to redrill the new seat frame to bolt up to the existing seat track. The end result is the new seat sits on the existing track / rail assembly, and so you could retain whatever power / manual controls you had, although with the newer seats and the way they integrate the buttons into the side bolster, you're going to have to do some custom work to make it all happen. Not impossible, just good old hot-rodding

You know, that's not a bad idea. The buttons are just buttons which can be pulled of the OEM seats and fabbed up to the aftermarket seats. Something to consider.

i installed a pair of sparco fighters, last april

http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_street.asp?id=198

in red (so far they have held up WAY BETTER than the stock leather)

and used the factory sparco seat mounts

they are a pain to adjust and needed to be modded( i put 2 inch
extensions on the front legs )

as my wife rarely drives the car, the pain in the *** aduster isnt that big of a deal. i just have to help her with the slider ajustment.

if you have several people driving the car then i could see the power adjust loss as a bigger deal as we dont have adjustable pedals ect

the sparcos are light 16 lbs, and are really comfy even on long trips

with aftermarket seats the third gen air bags are disabled and the air bag warning light is always on ( im told the air bags will still deploy but at full force. lucky for me i don't know first hand though )

Jay,
Can these still be used with the stock 3-point seat belt. I'm not quite ready to install the rollbar/5-point harness yet...
