New Head Unit/Shaker 500 Integration

So I've been throwing around some ideas in my head and I think I want to go ahead and replace my head unit with a double din pioneer dvd player.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PIONEER-AVH-...9#ht_571wt_881

I already have an MTX Thunder 7500 subwoofer, and an Alpine MRD-M1005 1000 watt amp that I want to install as well. But I don't want to lose my door subs when I do this. Are there any harnesses out there that won't disable my door subs w/ this specific deck?

Also... any suggestions for a different head unit? I am looking at this one because it has bluetooth already built in.

According to Crutchfield, you need the PAC C2R-FRD1 wiring harness, which will allow the usage of all the Shaker 500 stuff. You'll drive the Alpine and MTX from the sub outs on the deck itself, and the door subs will be driven by their factory amp.

If I were you, I'd look at the model above that one, the AVH-P3300BT. It's a new model, so it might be tough to find, but it's got Bluetooth already built in, and it's a quick hardware installation to add GPS. The next model up (AVH-P4300DVD) doesn't have built in Bluetooth, but it's got a larger (7" vs 5.8") touchscreen, and is much cleaner looking, though the price will definitely be higher.

I'm getting the 4300...eventually...with Bluetooth and GPS...a little more to pay off on my credit card before I jump on that train.

Cool... that's easy enough.

I actually found the 3300bt for 320 shipped. That is brand new, not refurbished. That seems like the way to go. Also, that harness is something like $75. So for 400 I can get my h/u, amp, sub and shaker subs still working. Not bad

Nice! I actually just bought the 4300dvd for $399 from a local shop. I'll have it on Monday. I really wanted the flat surface of the 4x00 series, so I was willing to wait to get the bluetooth and navi once I had the extra coin for it.

Gotcha...

$399 is a steal man! Congrats

As far as the styling goes between the two, I prefer to have a volume **** and to have to option to not use the touch screen for everything (f*cking fingerprints)

This is going to have to be put on hold for me for a while though, money is a little tight for me for the next month or two

Thanks, man! I'm actually heading over there to pick it up in about an hour, though, due to my grad school schedule, I doubt I'll be installing anytime soon...

I agree about the fingerprints, but for something like volume, that's why they make remote controls!

If I were you I would get the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD. I just got one last christmas along with the PAC C2R-FRD1 Radio Replacement Interface for Ford. Install was a breeze (if you have previous install experience) I also got a mod that cancels out the parking brake feature to watch dvd's while driving. (I do not advise driving while watching movies but I didn't feel like dealing with a parking brake to watch dvds )

The head unit has 3 sets of outputs, front, rear and sub. It has sub controls, 7'' screen, customizable eq. This head unit has it all. Ipod control ect. I have it hooked to a Hifonics Samson amp, 12'' kicker solo beric sub. The harness works great with the factory amp and door subs, although I do want to replace them eventually. I got my unit from amazon.com. There is so much you can add to this unit, Nav, BT, Sirius and back up video. They do make a newer model with the BT but costs 2x's as much. Good luck with your purchase.

Does it have bt built in? That is my main concern. I don't want to have to spend more money on top the original purchase.

If you have experiance installing you dont need the PAC unit. There are some write ups in here on how to do it. I have the 3200DVD (replaced my 1000 HU) and its been great. Pushes the stock speakers/amps much better.

I had a Pioneer AVIC Z120bt installed in my Tacoma. It's Double-Din and includes all bluetooth functions like hands-free cell phone, voice controlled navigation etc. It's a great unit but very pricey. Runs about $1500 installed. As far as my 06 Mustang, I installed a single-din JVC KD-R810. It's cheap ($199) and is Bluetooth with IPHONE audio streaming and hands-free. My next upgrade will be amps and speakers to improve the factory speakers.
