GT500 steering wheel w/ IUP dash

I know a lot of people have thought that the GT500 steering wheel wouldn't go with the IUP dash. I just got one (found one used = very cheap ), and decided to post a pic so that you can see a comparison (some MGW ***** can really make a difference in how it looks compared to stock *****)

Obviously, I am going to be a little biased, but IMO it looks GREAT!! The mustang horn emblem brings in some red, as does my pin stripe and GT emblems. There is just enough red to make it look good without being out of place.

However, I am on the fence with the red shift boot. I'm thinking that it would make my saleen **** look weird, unless I turn the **** 180 degrees so that the stitching faces the radio.

One final note: the bottom spoke is NOT black...it is graphite

Looks good. Not my cup of tea since the stitching is red. Probably more work than I care to do as well.

Looks good man, can you PM the info of where you got it? I agree that the red stiching wouldn't look good on my application, but I can always use a fine tip Sharpie to fix it if the price is right!!!

Actually, it is VERY easy to install. You don't need a steering wheel puller for these steering wheels, unlike the SN95's. It takes about 30 minutes start to finish, and that includes making sure that the SRS system is "powered down"

I have the shop manual, so that made it a little easier. But still, this mod is a piece of cake

I think it would be hard to use a sharpee, because it is stiched around the whole perimeter, and also each spoke.

I will agree that on certain colors, it may look out of place, but the mustang horn emblem really does help alleviate that problem.

Is that wheel the same diameter as the stock wheel? Same rim thickness?

Looks good!

Yes, it is the same diameter and thickness, although the top half seems like a smaller diameter due to the thumb inserts. (Unfortunately, the rim isn't a little thicker like the FR500 steering wheel for the SN95's is.)

Also, it should be noted that my 05 IUP wheel had "finger ridges" on the back of the wheel, but the GT500 wheel doesn't. Can anyone with an 07 mustang verify if this feature is unique to shelby wheels, or if all of the mustang wheels have smooth rims vs ridged.

Steering wheel install looks awesome with the standard airbag cover.

Quick question... where did you get the little silver filler piece for the top of the parking brake handle recess?

Im not sure if you were looking for 07 gt or 07 gt500 but my gt steering wheel has the finger ridges on the back.

The GT500/Bullitt steering wheel also comes in black stitching. I bought one from Moss Muscle for about $340....when they were having a sale not too long ago.

I will check to see if mine is smooth or has the ridges.....I only drive it during the summer time and it was a piece of cake to put on.

They make that wheel with black stitching sold by ford racing parts and is carried by mustangs unlimited and comes with a shifter boot to match.

I had to exchange the red (dark red) stitiching wheel to get the black stitched wheel. I love it.

Mine has no ridges....completely smooth and I also got the shifter boot as well when I bought mine......though the shifter boot is nothing special.

IMO the black stitching is much more versatile.....red stitching will look really good in certain situations.....I think it works well with the red seats that some cars came with as an option.

Only if the red seats are that darker red, my torch red GT just didnt look right5 with the dark red stitching. If it was brighter I would have kept it.

Good point....I also think some of the GT500s came with an interior that had some red in the seats and perhaps some red stitching on the shifter boot.

It's not that big a deal to restitch one of these wheels. You can have any stitching color you like, just requires a five buck spool of upholstery thread, a couple tapestry needles and some time.

Here's the current model GT500 wheel restitched in red for my '05:
