Thinking the zebrawood from woodcorp.com's hereitage branch this migiht look nice over the standard IUP dash to warm up the initerior a bit....not sure though. Also thinking black cherrywood or maple blonde migiht look nice....check out my primitive photochop of the zebrawood justs to get an idea of how the colors go togeather:

ps-does anyone know if you can take off those dash's when want a change or are they permanant?

I'd stick to the chrome look on the dashboard.... there are a bunch of people who would die to have that in their stang (including me) B)

I don't think it WOOD Look Too Bad, (Pun Intended) Really though, if you want Wood i think it would look Good. Darker Wood for a Lighter Interior, and Lighter Wood For a Dark Interior.

As for the Factory IUP Panels, They Are Permanent! They are part of the Plastic Pieces that Surround the Gauges, and Vents, And the Air Bag Pieces Come With the Air Bag. But you should be able to Mount the Wood Overlays On top of the Alluminum if you want Wood Bad Enough.

I remember Wood Grain Trim In all Calssic Mustangs. 64 1/2-66's Had Wood Inserts Optional, 67-68's did too, but Alluminum was all the Rage these years, And you could also Get Camera Case Black Trim with a Crinkle Finish. 69/70 Mustangs had Even More Wood Grain Trim. And 71-73's Had Wood if you got the Sports Interior Package. My Mom's 73 Mach 1 Had Wood Trim In the Doors and In The Center Stack around the Stereo Etc.

Check out some of these Classic Stangs.

Some Alluminum Pic's for 67-68

I love em! I like the second down the best....white interior with wood and alloy accents and black carpeting. So classy.
Although if couldn't just temporarily install the wood without affecting the iup I would never do it.
