I'm continuing my conversion from Gray to Black interior. First step was new takeoff seats and RIT dyed carpet https://themustangsource.com/forums/...terior-509612/



I picked up new kick panels and SEM Lacquer paint to cover the interior panels. The test spray on the uprights matched pretty well so I proceeded to do some more. If any parts don't turn out right I'll shop around for OEM parts.


The lower dash on the passenger side is a pain in the butt to remove so I'm going to mask and spray it in place



After this will be the headliner and the the area in the rear window. Will probably reupholster it with some fabric

 

I did this to my 05 some years ago.

I ended up replacing all the panels to black, though. Any that I sprayed ended up with paint flaking off and it looked terrible. The biggest job was replacing the dash with a black one.

Mind you, if you do replace panels, it is an opportunity to upgrade to the UIP panels. You can also upgrade the upper dash pad with the leather wrapped one for the Shelby. I lucked out and found one at my local wreckers. You could also get the ambient lighting console.

My interior looks soo much better in the IUP black interior, just as yours will.

Thanks! I have a feeling I'm going to just paint as a temporary measure as I source the replacement panels one by one. The parts sure look better freshly painted though

 

Are you using Pasti-dip or normal spray paint?

 

Using normal Lacquer paint, tested out on the door it's scuffed pretty easily so I've gone ahead and ordered a bunch of OEM panels off ebay. Will still spray paint the pieces that don't see a lot of wear and tear.

 

That really is the only way to go, as I also found out. Some bits will be harder to source than others. The grommets and lever for the seat were a pain to source (I still don't have them), but I did replace everything else.

As I stated before, though. When changing out the dash, look into getting the Shelby dash pad as well.

Holding off on the dash panel for now. When I buy a new one I want to do something to integrate my CDC gauge cluster or just switch to a pillar mount.

I know this will probably be a dumb idea but have you thought of dyeing it black?

Got a bunch of parts in and pulled the headliner and fabric from the rear window.



The painted parts are the dash panels and the passenger door, the rest are OEM parts






I'm planning on reupholstering the cloth with some microfiber material.

Picked up a few yards of black headliner material and microfiber suede type material for the back shelf and headliner.


Back shelf: used the suede material for this.

Old stuff peeled right off



Then used a spray adhesive on the molded top part



Cut the flaps for the seat back part to be flush and secured it with hot glue, cutting segments to fill in the gaps.

Pulled the visors apart and they are basically cardboard glued together.

Cut headliner material in the general shape and glued along the edge, trimming excess afterwards



Then reassembled and glued the sandwich back together, adding the clip back in after

The headliner turned out okay, could have done better. I incorrectly removed one layer too many, the fiberglass came off with the fabric. correcting it with some double sided tape at the point in the back where it sags between the two headliner clips.

Used 2 cans of 3M adhesive and had to correct the fit in the middle so ran into some wrinkles

Wow! I didnt even know that even existed! What I meant was common house hold dye like for cloths and such.
Since you can use that stuff to dye plastics I thought it would be the same type of procedure, but if paint changes the color permanently then all the better!

 

Going to try it out on some parts but need to do some good prep first with scuffing/sanding.
