Kenwood DDX-7017 Install Complete
I completed the install for my Kenwood DDX-7017, Kenwood Navigation Unit KNA-G510, Sirius Tuner and Rear View Camera. I used Hawgman's write-up http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...ht=skipper1000 and didn't have any problems. I hadn't planned on putting something like this in my car until the upgrade from Ford became available. When I saw the price for the Ford version along with the fact the the Ford DVD is not functional, I decided to go aftermarket. Since I am cheap I decided to get a factory refurbushed headunit and nav unit. I have about $1200 in the complete system and am very happy with it. Here are some pics.
The headunit
Attachment 18725
The nav unit (under the passenger seat)
Attachment 18726
The Nav unit has Garmin software and its really nice that it is a hard drive based system instead of DVD.
Attachment 18728
The rearview camera (I know I need to was my car)
Attachment 18727
One thing I like about it in addition to being able to put 4GB's worth of MP3's on a DVD you can also put some JPEG's on it and play a slide show or pause it on one picture and display it while you listen to the radio or sirius.

Yes, the camera is in the keyhole. I made a bracket out of some material from an old license plate. You can't see it because of the black plastic cover that covers that area on the underside of the deck lid. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow. Basically I took the cap off the camera, put the camera through the hole and put the cap back on tightening it against the rim of the hole. The bracket I made keeps everything secure, but it was really secure even without the bracket.

1SG,
Nice setup!! I'm partial to Kenwood myself so I'm curious if you used the same harness as Hawgman? Do all the speakers work? I have a Shaker 1000 and would like to keep the factory setup (amps).

Thanks, yes I used the same harness that Hawgman used. All the speakers work and it seams like the Subs put out more base than stock. I did hook up the voltage regulator for the subs backward at first and got the pop but as soon as I re-connected it correctly the pop was gone. I had a Shaker 500 so only the white RCA plug from the small harness works for the front subs (I put a Y splitter on it to connect it to the HU) but I believe with the 1000 both work and will run front and rear subs.

Congrats SG1. Nice setup. Wow, that backup camera is a killer idea
. Also, much diggin the Garmin. I am considering swapping my NAV4100 for it. Actually, more than considering, just haven't gotten off my lazy butt and done it. I think the hold up is knowing ( or at least assuming ) that I am going to have to swap out the harness that runs from the head unit to the GPS unit. If it would work on the same harness as the NAV4100 I probably would have already bought it. Yea...i'm getting lazy.
Hey, what faceplate kit did you use?

Do you have a link to Hawgman's thread? Also, when I went to Best Buy, they said I would need an amp bypass($150) if I wanted a new headunit for my shaker 500. Is this true?
Can I get a new headunit for my shaker 500 that still uses the stock subs?

Whoever told you that at Best Buy dones't know what they are talking about. My subs work fine and I had a Shaker 500. You just have to get the right harness and use a voltage regulator so the subs won't make a pop when they come on. The regulator costs $1.70 at radio shack.
Link to Harness (notice the RCA plugs for the Subs)

Do a google search and you may be able to find it cheaper.

The RCAs on that adapter plug into the new headunit right? The stock headunit has 3 harness plugs, but the new headunit only uses two of them. What does the 3rd plug do?
Thanks

Not sure what the third stock one is for but it is not used. The harness with the RCA plugs has the wires to power the subs and yes the rcas plug to the sub out on the new HU. On the Shaker 500, only the white RCA plug works, so I got a Y splitter and plugged the white one to the 2 from the HU. I believe with the Shaker 1000 the white RCA is for the front subs and the red one is for the rear (I could be wrong).

Anyway, again, nice setup man. Congrats. Next step is to get rid of those crappy speakers and amps and put something worth listening to in there
