iPod mount

I'm finally going to buy myself an 30 gig iPod video, and was just wondering how you guys have your iPods mounted. I really don't care about being able to control it through the radio. I have an '07, so I'll just be using the aux jack. I would like to mount it using the power port above the radio. I think it'll look best there. The only ones I can seem to find also have FM transmitters built in. I'm not going to use that, and really don't want to pay for it. I'm just going to buy a male to male 6 foot or so cord to connect to the jack in the console, and neatly tuck the wiring into the center console. Any help and pictures would be great.

It's easy, it's cheap, and the wires just tuck right into the center console. I have mine hooked to an FM transmitter for now, but will eventually get some sort of adapter mounted in the center console.

+1 for Nick's post! I got one off Ebay for $8, and it works like a charm. Fits in the cupholder, and the iPod never moves!! Way better than getting a $40 bracket that has to be mounted to the center console.

I don't even like sitting a can of pop in the cupholder though. It gets in the way of shifting. Thanks for the idea, but I really like the idea of something that goes on the dash. Looks like I'm going to have the just buy the $70 one with the FM transmitter. I won't use that part, but it mounts just the way I want, and charges also.

if you're going to spend $70, might as well get something like this:

I just installed one, works great. Ipod stays tucked away in center console, mount the screen by the A/C vents, control **** by the shifter.

I didn't like the FM transmitter thing either, especially for $70. I went to best buy and just got Ipod mounts for like $9. Attaches with 3m. I wanted to stick it between the middle a/c vents, but with my line in/out cord and the charger, I didn't have room to mount it there and charge and have it attached to the unit (my monster line in cabe has a tall plug). So I just mounted it to the side of the center console. Not too much of a reach, I kinda lean to the inside when I drive anyways. Works for me and pretty cheap. They were located in the Best Buy car audio department.

I thought about that route, but I don't want to attach anything to my iPod. I ended up going with this. It's cheap, so I'm sure the FM transmitter is crap, but I have no intentions of using it anyway. But it charges and holds it exactly where I want it. I may spray it black, though. At least it's $30 instead of $80.

My experience with an FM IPOD transmitter was poor audio quality. I even bought a Monster unit! Nothing compares to the mini jack if you like audio quality. I want to run audio and video to my Eclipse stereo. I'm looking for an IPOD dock that runs on 12VDC, right now Apple docks run 110 VAC. I really don't want to install a fat converter

I got my iPod and mount in the other day. As I thought, the FM tuner was complete garbage. But for $30 it does everything I wanted it to do. It actually came in black, so I didn't even have to paint it. Now I just got to pull the console out to run the cable. It's kind of hanging there right now, but it sounds great.

Is there a powerpoint in the center console? Maybe you could just put it in there?

There is, but I want to be able to see it. I don't want to have to buy one of those adapters to be able to see the songs on the radio, as most have had problems with them. I like what I got. It works exactly as I wanted at a decent price.

Yeah, I understand. I was thinking about getting the Trip Tunes advance, but it's kind of high at $250.
