iPod Adapter for Pioneer, anyone put one in?

My car is in pieces in the driveway at the moment and I'm putting in the Pioneer AVIC-D1 along with the XM Tuner and the iPod adapter.
I'm trying to install the iPod adapter under the center console and I will be running the cable for the iPod into the storage unit.
Is it kosher to tap the power lines into the 12v power adapter wires? The manual is pretty light on power requirements and I have a 'wire hooked whether key is in or not' power requirement and that 12v socket works 24x7 without the keys so it sounds perfect. Just my first time doing this to a car let alone a two week old one so I'm a bit nervous.
