Interior Rearview Mirror with Temperature Display

I have an 07 GT vert with an interior mirror that has a compass display. I would like to get one that also has the temperature display but the new ones are $300+ has anyone installed one from salvage yard and if so where was the temperature sensor under the hood. My factory service manual didn't have much info on this. Appreciate any help.

I installed my Gentex mirror with the temp sensor. The instructions stated to place the sensor somewhere around the front bumper assembly where outside air intake is occurring (ie, behind the grille).

I mounted my sensor in front of the AC condensor clipped to the foam/plastic side mounting brackets to avoid heat soak. When the car is in motion I'm only about 1 degree hotter than most bank thermometers (you know the ones with the date/time/temp on the building).

I am sure an OEM would follow the same course of action. Unfortunately, the sensor is small so you could end up gutting half the front end of the car trying to find it.

I have also wanted to put a Gentex mirror with compass and temp in my vert. $325 for that mirror and more like $400 for the same mirror and the homelink is about right. Looking around in a junk yard would be a risk in my book.

I just purchased a new Gentex Electrochromic Homelink Mirror w/Compass on eBay for $210 including Priority Mail shipping. I'll be replacing my Electrochromic Compass mirror with it in the next day or two. I plan to splice the plug from the Gentex mirror into the stock harness.

Love my mirror... it is now over 2 years old.

FYI in case you are interested in where to mount the temp sensor:

Make sure you buy some fuse box taps from Kragen before starting the project. The fuse box is located in the passenger side kick panel. Run the wires down the passenger "A" pillar to the fuse box.

Did I mention that I love having this mirror?

any issues installing on a vert, considering no headliner and overhead to run wires?

Nope... My car *is* a vert... look in my rearview mirror...

All you do is detach the sun visors and unsnap the plastic cover underneath the windshield header, then you unsnap the passenger "A" pillar cover. Run the wires down the "A" pillar to the fuse box, and run your temp wire through the radio antenna wire grommet to the outside of the passenger compartment. It's a piece of cake.

Takes about an hour, and a lot of that hour was taking the #$@#%@ old mirror off my windshield. You don't need to pull the front bumper off like in my pix, that pic was taken when I was installing my HIDs and I happened to catch my temp sensor in the pic.

I've had a slight hiccup in my install. I purchased my mirror on eBay. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...222918383&rd=1) The auction specifically stated it was for a blue display which is why I purchased it, to match my color blue gauges. Unfortunatley the guy sent me a green display - the mirror matches green on his own color chart - but is arguing with me that saying it is blue. I'll let you be the judge.

His color chart:

The mirror he sent:

Anyway, the seller is arguing telling me I have to pay to get a blue one and I say his mistake, he should pay. Filed a dispute with PayPal. Beware of this seller!

sales-at-dnd-enterprises - the guy's name is Dave Danielson.

Great price and he shipped the mirror very quickly - I got it before I received the email saying he sent it and it would take 3 to 5 days to arrive. Emailed installation instructions, too.

If he had corrected his screw-up I would happily recommend him. Unfortunately he turned out to be a real a$$h01e over what amounts to less than $5 on his part. Too bad for him. What goes around comes around...

I bought the mirror with just the temp/compass from Autoanything.com for $199 shipped. I have one question for those of you that have installed them , were you able to use the OEM windshield button ? If not , what is the best way to remove the OEM button without cracking the windshield ?
