Just spoke with KC, he says his guy is working with a signal generator, he says that we should have some sort of answer in the next week or so!

OK,

I have no problems with the nav unit, other than the speed error and ...

My arrow never points in the right direction. Even when I recalibrate it manually, it eventually adjusts back to the wrong direction. Any ideas?

Cheers

Few questions guys:

What does it take to reprogram the unit?
Can a dealership do it or do I have to ship it off?
How much $?

Considering this mod for Christmas and need to prepare the wife.

Thanks,

Jason

What do you mean it points to the wrong direction? When you are moving down a road the arrow points off in a different direction than what you are traveling?

Radman: To reprogram the unit you need to send it to a specialist, not just any dealership can reprogram. That's part of the reason of the delay in resolving the speed code error; KC tells me his guy is constantly busy setting up units and is tough to get hold of.

It's a great mod, I love my unit, hopefully we should have some answers (and a resolution to the problem) soon.

What happens is that as I'm travelling down a highway, the starts to point in a different direction than I am travelling. It will be as much as 180 degrees off from what I am pointing towards.

No word on the signal generator?

Radman,

I bought mine off ebay for just over $500. It came from a Mountaineer and everything works just fine except for the Mercury logo and the speed error.
Cheers

Sorry if I miss this somewhere in the post but I have 2 questions about the unit.

1) Are the Maps DVD based, so when new maps are avaialbe all you need to do is buy the new DVD and insert it?

2) Are the navigation features any good? can you play with the addresses and such while driving (even though I know you're not SUPPOSED to!

WikdRyd,

Yes, the maps are DVD based, you can get updates when they come out. Through the dealerships I think they're aroudn $200, but off of e-bay they're much cheaper. The last version I've seen is 4p, and I picked it up for $60.

When you're moving the options are limited, but you can do some things, like search for Points of Interest (POI's). Restaurants, gas stations, hospitals, etc.

Which units will fit? I've seen some silver units on ebay that come out of 06 or 07 lincolns or f150's. Anyone know? Just curious because I'd be open to the silver model if it matches either my auto shifter or the IUP dash.

Thanks,

Jason

All will work just the colour of the back lighting is different. Black units have green backlighting and silver units have white backlighting for the buttons. All will need to be programmed for the specific vehicle.

Can you reprogram a destination while driving? So when we leave the house, the passenger can be programming the destination while we start on down the road?

For new destination other than POI such as gas or dinning or other you must slow down to 5 miles per hour or stop. This built is a safety so you are not taking your attention off the road while typing in.

I assume the THX model would work as well?

Sorry to be pesky with these questions, I just don't want to make a $400-$600 mistake.

Thanks,

Jason

Is there any way to override this? I know its a safety feature, but its also a pain in the a**, especially if its the passenger entering it in.

I believe this can be disabled in the AVIC?

BUMP

Has anyone fixed the speed error yet? Anyone having trouble getting the dealer to reprogram?

Another question.... if I get am OEM Nav off of Ebay and have it reflashed at the dealer, will this screw up the tunes I've ordered from Breenspeed? Is it the same chip that is being flashed?
