That Pioneer AVIC-Z1 is starting to look better as a "Plan B" if this doesn't work out.

**EDIT**
The Z1 is getting harder to find now that the Z1 is out. You can still find the refurbed ones, which are just as good as the new ones. For more info, do a search on google for avic 411 and you'll find a site dedicated to the Pioneer nav units.

Any more news on the fix for the factory nav? I'm holding off getting mine reprogrmmed until there's a solution for the speed signal.

I think I may have an answer for the speed signal problem:
In the manual for the unit, it explains that there is a 'dead reckoning' feature to the unit. This means that when it loses signal in a tunnel or something, it can still project the location of the car due to an internal gyroscope and a 'speed sensor' on the wheels of the car. This gives the unit distance traveled and the direction until it picks up signal again.
I am guessing that we get a speed error because we don't have the speed sensors on our 05/06s.
Cheers

It's not actually a seperate Sensor, it's a signal from the ECU telling the system that it's moving. The same signal the Shaker's use to adjust the speed-sensitive volume. The problem is the nav radio doesn't know how to interpret that signal on the Mustangs. And it's apparently a problem on factory-installed units also. That's what they're trying to find a fix for.
My '05 speed-sensitive volume worked fine, and it did on the '07 also, until I put this nav unit in. So it's not like the '05's and '06's are missing some part.

How much information is displayed?
Can anyone tell me (or show via some photos) how much information is displayed when using Sirius or MP3s burned to a CD. The one thing i hate about my current Shaker 500 is the limited display. I'd like to see all the information (artist, title, channel on Sirius) when listening to music.
thanks!
thanks!

I dont have Sirius but in playing MP3s, it displays folder name (album name in my case), file name (track number - track name in my case), Artist and Track name from ID3 tags. Also the Nav unit does not have difficulty with MP3s that contain ID3 V2 tags like the shaker does. The display is much more complete, one of the major reasons I went to it vs the shaker.

Manual
I have just bought the factory nav unit, but it didn't come with the instruction booklet. I don't want a photocopy, but would rather have the actual booklet. Anyone know how I can get it, as my dealership has no idea?

Most come with the DVD.

I got a .pdf file of it also, same information, but like mrkabc said, you're really not missing much, it's pretty easy to figure out on your own.

programming
I had gotten the ford nav unit from ebay. It came from a mercury mountaineer. My guy at the dealership says that he will need to get the info from the shker 500 to the nav, but I would still have the mercury symbol. I read here that is not the case. Is there something that the dealership needs to know?

Mine was also from an 07 Mountaineer. You do not need the info from the shaker 500. You would if you were replacing it with another shaker 500. What you need is the programming from another Mustang with Nav radio.
