OK, I know I should have spent the extra 1300 for the 1000, but I figured you can add the extra cheaper.

It was suggested that instead of adding a sub woofer box and amp in the trunk, you replace the rear deck speakers and add a amp.

How many have done this??

I read somewhere, that the side door speakers are the bass, if so how do you or what do you get to upgrade it there?

The big speakers in the doors are the subs. If you want to increase bass without adding rear subs, just replace the door subs with a better sub and maybe add an amp.

First the door subs, from what i have read on various threads, are difficult to replace and there are no replacements avalable. Best route would be to put a sub in the trunk with an amp. Replace the rear deck speakers also.

Yep, there is a thread. They aren't my speakers, and I am in no way affiliated with Elemental Designs. I am just a happy customer. Now, with that out of the way, the 8" version I mentioned will be made anyway, but with our "feedback" (bugging the poo out of Ben to get it done first), we can bump up priority. He says that if it can be done correctly, and he can sell the drivers, he will make them.

And you CAN install much better subs in the door with either fiberglass work (look for a thread I started) or by heating the enclosure with a heat gun and stretching it to fit. It is a bit of work, but you would not beleive how much better the system sounds with high quality subs in the door. Even driven by the factory amps!

Anyone know the actual volume of the box in the doors? I just finished up my install. Overall pretty darn pleased with the results. But I have noticed that the subs I put in the doors sound a bit soft. Have used this perticular brand/model before in a sealed box and they were pretty tight. I am thinking there is probably a little too much air space for the speaker. That, and the fact that they are anything but sealed. That doesn't help matters much either.

they are .41 cubic feet. Probably a bit large. Use some non-hardening modeling clay to take up the excess room. That should rasise your Qtc and make the bass punchier.

Wow really? I expected much more than that because of the way that the box runs under the door handle. I could actually stick nearly my entire arm in the hole. Could probably add about 10lbs to each door panel in clay taking up all the space The 8's that I put in are rated for 0.25-0.5 cubic feet for a sealed box, and 0.5-1.0 cubic feet for a ported box. May have to investigate it a little, do some experiments and see what happens. Thanks for the info

Oh, you DID seal up that bolt hole in the back that held the factory driver, right? That leak could cause odd sound problems also.

Actually I dremmeled out that entire little section ( speakers were about 1/2" too deep ). The back of the box needed to be flat. But to answer your question, yea, I sealed that back up. Actually just inverted the piece I cut out, then epoxyed it back in to place, and also epoxyed the hole closed.
