see my point- you think Bose makes a great product

you probably dont want to know what it costs bose to put together their speakers.

I dont want this to degenerate into a discussion about bose as its off topic and winds up frustrating everyone.

the point is- for the price he has listed, it may well be a good woofer.

I'd be interested depending on how they sound.

You would be surprised what "major" car audio manufacturers pay to have their products made. Also, look at the quality of the SEAS or the Dayton speakers. Both are excellent and cost very little. The SEAS range from 40.00 up to 180.00 each. The Dayton is 35.00 and is a wonderful speaker !

Price doesn't always dictate quality...

Yep, and if you consider that 99% of "manufacturers" don't actually make anything, it would be easier to understand. Dayton drivers are made by Eminence, along with many other brands. Vifa/Seas/ScanSpeak/Audax(?) are all the same. They make a boatload of "car" speakers. Most caraudio brands aren't even custom-built, but simply re-badged off-the-shelf drivers. SOme get a different part here and there.

The drivers I am posting are made in China. I know this for a fact, but so are MOST speaker drivers now, so that means little. I'll comment on the quality of them when I have them. I personally see $60+ for an 8" driver as being at the expensive end when I am used to purchasing Eminence and TCSounds-based drivers for half that. Unfortunately, neither has the tooling to build what we need, and I surely cannot afford to have that set-up for my measly pair of drivers.

TnRedfire, since you've apparently been paying attention over at DIY, I have e-mailed Dang about maybe getting a driver designed/done for us. His connections may be exactly what we need. I like the motor topology he is placing in his 12"

I am definitely interested, but I would want them to work with standard aftermarket amps. I want to rip out my entire Shaker 500 system, rewire it, and install some better gear. The biggest problem now is finding a drop in, reasonably priced, attractive, and good performing 8" woofer.

If I understand the original post, these 8" drivers will be dual 2ohm drivers... so they could be wired for either a 1ohm or 4ohm load...

Dang is VERY knowledgable !

True, but drivers are a lot cheaper to make well (especially in quantity) than, for example, amps or crossovers. Not sure what Seas or Focal drivers cost to make, but you can get nice Seas drivers for that price, or Ascendant, or Dayton, or TangBand...not the pinnacle of high fidelity but very robust, well-made, low-distortion stuff.
My biggest complaint is how overpriced "car" drivers are -- usually about 3x as much for the same quality. This is pure marketing and a lot of people suck it up. Home drivers often sound better and cost less, you just have to be a little knowledgeable about impedance and SPL ratings. Sadly, there are no 6x8" "DiY" drivers out there

Aaron, you know I'm in -- I am going to call MTX and see if I can't get a new amp though, in which case I would likely prefer the 8 ohm drivers bridged.

That's how I'm going to run the first pair off the Aura RPM2 4200. That will only give them about 100-125 each. If that doesn't do it, I bust out the 2300's and hit them with 300 each. I may even pull out the old-school Soundstream to hit them with for some power-compression testing, if need be. I have a Class A 10.0 and a Rubi 1000-2. 1200+ watts of class A/B is tough on an electrical system, though

I was told 2 more weeks before I get my test woofers. I'm growing impatient myself. Customs held up some stuff, but I'm unsure what that would be.

Wow, 6 weeks just to get the test woofers, sounds like this may take too long.

The "test" woofers are actual production units. If there is enough interest, he'll get dual 2 ohm made. I'm fine with the 8-ohm as I'll bridge my amp's rear channels and have at it. I'm changing amps soon anyway. Full range class-D is the way to go, and a bit easier on the electrical system.

I'd buy anything that set the speakers more in the door, as close to flush as possible.
Everyone laughs at how far the woofers stick out when they open the door. It looks rediculous.

I'm onboard for some upgrades to all of the factory speakers. I want something that sounds awesome but looks stock to keep the thieves at bay.

I got my e-mail this morning stating they're in stock as of yesterday, and mine will be shipped shortly. I had to "re-purchase" since it was over 30 days authorization on my credit card. That put me a couple of days behind as I've been away for a couple of days. We'll know next week I guess. I'm chomping at the bit as this will "finish" my install- at least until I find something to upgrade.

Tracking info received. I guess these will finally happen. I will post pics and comparisons with the factory woofs, a Dayton RS225, and even some old Rockford Punch PCH 84's (old-school Punch series that kicks ***).
