GPS people
I'm thinking about getting a GPS for my car. From what I've read, Garmin seems to be the best brand. I just don't know which one to get.
I'd like to have one that can tell me how fast my car has gone recently, that way if I have to take it in to the dealer for work, I can see if the workers played with my car on the roads. I remember one member here posting something like that. He took in his S197 for some work and when he got it back he saw that Ford workers had taken it on the road and gone over 100mph.
Phone and iPod intergration isnt nessecary for me, but it doesn't hurt. Even though I'll have my iPod hooked directly up to an aftermarket head unit.
Oh and it has to be able to be switched from one car to another easily. I'd like to have it in both my GT and my daily driver.
So what do yall recommend?

I tried a Tom Tom and did not care for it. I ended up several hundred yards from my destination a few times and the whole thing would turn off when I got a phone call on it. I returned it and bought a Garmin Nuvi 360. I have been very happy with it. It works well and you can literally put it in your pocket. It does a lot of different things such as play music, so the navigation part is not as expansive as on some of Gramin's expensive nav only units, but it has worked great for me. The Nuvi 360 has bluetooth handfree and the Nuvi 350 is the same, but without the bluetooth. There is also a Nuvi 660 which is like the 360, but with a larger screen.

I just read a pretty good review of a new HP iPAQ (RX5900 Travel Companion). It's a Windows Mobile device with a built in GPS receiver (a very sensative SiRFstarIII). I comes loaded with TomTom Navigator 6 and North American maps. It also has 802.11 and Bluetooth for Internet/email. Windows Mobile makes it nice for other software as well. The review was in April/May's Smartphone and Pocket PC mag.....
FYI, in addition to the wider screen, the Nuvi 660 also has a built-in FM modulator that allows you to hear the voice prompts for directions through the car's stereo system. You can also hear callers through the stereo when using your cell phone with the blue-tooth. The 660 is about $200 more than the 360, so you'll have to decide if the extra features are worth the $$$.
Also, there's a new Nuvi 680 that is supposed to be available this month. It has a MSRP of around $995. It has all of the 660 features plus built-in MSN Direct to check traffic alerts. Don't know if there is a monthly fee for this or not.
i've had the Garmin StreetPilot 2820 for over a year now, and i'm VERY pleased with it.
large display, full color 3D map, track log, huge memory, bluetooth handsfree capability..
i'm thinking of replacing that with a Kenwood head unit combined with the KNA-G510/520 Garmin GPS unit which adds navigation with the same Garmin interface to a Kenwood touch screen head unit.

I've got the Garmin C330 mounted by the A-pillar and love it. Touch screen with every street preloaded. Points of interest also cover just about every business in the yellow pages.....much better than the OEM unit in my Lexus.
Prices have come down even more in the last month. You can find them for $349 if you look around.
