Yay! So happy someone came out with this. Now if only my car would get here...

Do we know what the cost is going to be?

Is it just me or is anyone else worried about having to splice the power cable of the cig lighter when we install the adapter?

OMG....this is the second happiest day this year. The first was when my car was delivered.

For all of you asking...anything with rca or stereo headphone jack out will work.

DVD, Xbox, Nav, Sat.....heck you can use an old sony cassette walkman. sweet.

A quick update...

After another day of cruising SoCal with the new PIE/iPod setup, everything works good, and sounds good.

Regarding the question about the sound quality, I have to answer two ways...

First, it is noticably better than any of the FM transmitters or modulators I have tried, and as I mentioned before I have tried them all.
Bass is clean down to the bottom of the door mounted subs capabilities. Highs are clean and crisp, far beyond the cut of of any of the FM units.

Seondly, I'm in a convertible in Southern California. The top is DOWN, the windows are DOWN! So if there are audio shortcomings I would not be the most discerning. But I have done some garage listening too, and am not disappointed.

Or you could just get a GM, like the HHR, and be able to plug an MP3 player right into the front of the headunit.

HHR

Wait, what am I saying....
What is this? I can't tell is it a car? Is it a truck? An SUV? Can't tell from the site.

As far as sound quality goes RCA is probably the best choice as far as price to quality ratio. There are some all digital interfaces, but MP3's themselves loose more detail than you would gain with a better interface. So as long as it's well designed (and from the pics and their site), and it looks like it is, it should be quite the fix.

And as far as splicing into the cigarette lighter, that shouldn't be any problem. Yes pro installer do that sort of thing daily.

the HHR is what happens when you give a H2 a bottle of jack, and an unsuspecting PT crusier. 9 months later you have a bastard child (HHR)

In my opinion, GM is like 5 years too late with that fugly POS. The original PT cruiser was available in 00. Now they are FINALLY coming out with competition?!? wtf GM?

The first time I saw one, i thought it was a very poorly modified PT Cruiser.

If it concerns you that much, you could run a wire all the way to the battery. Or, you could possibly place a wire to the fuse box if there are any unused sections there, and have it on its own fuse.

Hey guys, saw this at crutchfield. Looks like PIE Adapters are ready for order and are about $30-80. They also have them for each individual aftermarket stereo maker too. Pioneer, Alpine etc...

Find the adapter on that page that is for the '05 Mustang. Plenty for other applications, but not for our beloved 'Stang.

Crutchfields is throwing bait in the water to get a few advance orders, before the part has been manufactured.

EXCELLENT (and long overdue) news!! Clem - I'm in your same boat with an '05 Mustang GT and an '05 F-150 Lariat 4x4......sweeeeet is all I can say right now - can't wait to get that XM radio installed!!!

By the way this adapter should work with most Ford, Lincoln/Mercury head units....only requirement is that the HU must have the a seperate "AUX" button on the radio face - NOT the shared "AUX/CD" round button found on some of the head units......I just ordered 2 at www.logjamelectronics.com - they upped their initial quantity to 200 units - and have sold 160 so far - so you'd better get over there fast!!

Double the fun for us!

I've been suffering for a year and a half with the FM modulated XM Commander in my '04 F-150. It's to the point now that I've accepted the compromise in sound quality and don't notice how flat it sounds. Same thing in the '05 GT, but just for a few months now. It will be like getting a whole new system with new AUX adapter. Twice!
