I have been in touch with a company that designs and manufactures interfaces to tap into factory radios allowing use of an AUX input.
They called me today to ask if I would be interested in testing a pre-manufacturing proto-type.

Uh, YEAH!

1. I hopped in the Stang and got there in record time
2. IT WORKS!

I know there are plenty out there who want details, so I took some pix, and put everything I know on a quick web page.

Find it here:

http://members.tripod.com/2005stang-auxbutton/

They predict product to be available by late August, so until then, Na Na Na Na Na! I got the first one!

OK, sorry, I'll behave.

Seriously, if you have quesitons I didnt answer you can message me, or use the links to the company's forums on the web pages I made.

Hope this is helpful.

Glad someone finally figured out how to use the AUX button.

Dayyum, KC! You have just made my day. Outstanding work, my man.

This has been a long time coming. I have two vehicles sorely in need of this adapter - '05 Mustang + '04 F-150.

Plese keep us posted with your results. This is big news!

Excellent! I wonder if the same setup can be used in my non-shaker 6-CD changer in my '04 F150. The unit looks the same from the front; it just doesn't say "shaker."

Dusty1,

You and I must be sharing a brain this morning! I've had my '04 F-150 Lariat for 20 months now and have been waiting impatiently for this adapter to come out. I had given up. When I picked up the '05 Stang, I doubled my frustrations. I do believe that the head units in both are very similar in respect to the "AUX" nightmare.

Break out the brew.

Adam,

Yes, it's a Red Letter Day, if this setup will work in both vehicles!

Speaking of brew, I'm going to brew a 5-gallon batch this weekend in celebration!

This might just get me to break down and get a Ipod.

I still think
radios should just have a USB port on the front to plug a flash key into.....

I've got a Creative Zen (60 gig). It was a lot cheaper than the IPOD (only $300 at Amazon) , and works great!

ok, how does it do with songs that have lots of base and lots of cymbal type sounds? I have noticed FM modulators clip with this type of music. How well does this interface handle the two extremes of the frequency scale?

at higher volumes, is there much/any distortion? any estimated prices?

This is awesome news! I think I had emailed PIE a few months ago, among others, and was told they were working on it and to check back.

The photos you supplied are awesome, and will be handy to show to an installer. I think I would be a tad nervous to see my stereo dismantled like that, but I guess they do it everyday, right?

This will work with Sirius Sat right? I mean, it's just a general AUX adapter?

Got this from the PIE forums

http://www.pie.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=48&start=30

The part number for the AUX Converter should be: FRD04-AUX

Hopefully it will be out sooner rather than later!!!

Or you could just get a GM, like the HHR, and be able to plug an MP3 player right into the front of the headunit.

HHR

Wait, what am I saying....

KC, do you know if this will work with other MP3 players? I have a Sony walkman, NW-HD3.

In these 2 pics:

You can see that the system he has fixed up uses RCA jacks. That means that you can use an assortment of adapters and such (all attainable from Radio Shack, etc) to run just about ANYTHING off of this. Great news!

I'm wondering if this will work with the non-shaker standard radio. The front of it looks exactly like the shaker, except it doesn't have the CD6 thing and doesn't say shaker. It has an aux button though. Anyone have any idea?

I certainly hope so. I've looked at the back of my HU and it has the input for the AUX source, the AUX button, and the "No AUX Audio" message when the button is pushed. I think the only difference between the standard HU and the Shaker is the 6-disc MP3 thing.

I appreciate the offer. Don't know if the neighbors do though!!! It's usually "standing room only" in the house when the batch is ready for sampling!
