intruder: I got the plastic from a stereo shop near my house. just bought a 12"x12" (1/8" thick) sheet. Any decent stereo shop should have plenty of this stuff lying around. I think I gave him about $5 for it. It was a little tricky to work with because i was working with such tight tolerances, but i'm really happy with the end result. I also had to carve out the bottom of the stereo bezel to make everything fit.

You guys on this forum don't know me very well yet..... only the guys at thirdgen.org where I'm the mod of two forums and a very long-time third gen Camaro owner... but here goes: I like to do this differently but within reason. I always research every mod I do and very rarely do I follow the popular path..

In any case, I've been working on a similar gauge setup for months. One thing I don't like about these cars is the very limited choices to place aftermarket gauges. I've never liked the pillar pod (in any car) and I don't really care for the triple center-mounted gauges either (takes away from the classic Shelby dashpad design). So what other options are there? I've seen the "Rallye Pack" but don't care for that either for a different reason.... more later.

I decided to replace my Shaker 500 with a DIN-sized Sony head unit on a double-DIN faceplate, just like Jezinn. But in my design, my head unit is on the bottom, close to my hand which rests on the shifter almost all the time and the gauges are higher and easier (in my opinion) to read. Also, I'm using gauges that no one (most likely) are using on this forum. They were previously in my '03 Cobra and from my reading on SVTPerformance, I believe I was the only one there to use these too. The mounting of these gauges are also unique. More specifics when I complete the job in about one month. Suffice it to say, they will not use the trim ring that they come with but a much "thinner" chromed ring. All three gauges will be mounted behind clear plexiglas. These gauges are programmable and their program buttons will be located elsewhere, location TBD. No, they are not AutoMeter. I will post details and pics once I finish.

The reason why I don't want to use the "Rallye Pack" design is because I plan on constructing another DIY wideband O2 circuit with custom display, exactly like I have in my TT IROC-Z. This custom display includes a bargraph with 30 rectangular LEDs (see pic of it in my Camaro). I'd like to place it in a similar location in my GT but I wouldn't be able to see it because of the steering wheel. So, I've decided to place it just above the steering column. This mod will be just one more in my list of unique mods that I have yet to start -- still kind of new to this '05 scene....

I agree that having the gauges on the top of the double din opening is a better place in terms of viewing. I chose to put them at the bottom simply because the stereo i used has the flip up/out lcd which would then cover the gauges if they were installed in that manner.

Looking forward to seeing the pics.
