Fire extinguisher mounting

I need to mount a fire extinguisher in my GT vert for the open track event at Barber. This is just for the event and not a permanent mount. I don't know what they will accept but considering duct taping it to the floor. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Tried to post a pic, too big...go here http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums...ic=3556&st=500 post # 514 and go to the interior pic......the extinguisher is a permanent mount. There is a "strip" running under and behind the glove box door...sort of between the kick panel and the console. I used one of the socket screws for one hole in the bracket, drilled a self tapping screw into the strip for another. Passenger's feet fit under the extinguisher, and their legs sem OK.

Edit....and yes, the glove box door opens all the way

Cool

I wrapped mine in velcro so it sticks to the carpet.

Not sure what the tech inspection is like at Barber, but most open track events won't even let you have loose change in your car, so a 10 pound fire extinguisher that is taped or velcroed to the floor wouldn't pass.

Ebay has a lot of different style brackets that can bolted down. That's probably the only type that will pass tech at most open track events.

Shame we cannot mount one, but most of the good locations are ricer's ideas.

That looks really good. Can you undo it easily to give the passenger more leg room when driving around town.

I suppose you could pull the extinguisher and leave just the bracket, but leg room really is not a problem for most....as mentioned one's feet just go behind the extinguisher.

Do not discount a good idea simply because of it's source.

Wise words I once read.

If you want to put your extinguisher somewhere put it there. To compromise simply because someone you don't approve of did it is just plain silly.

Most fires happen real quick and burn wiring. If you want to take the chance of getting out, opening the trunk with your key (burnt wires),fishing out the extiguisher, then putting out the fire... go ahead.
Having one in your trunk is a good idea for day to day because you are usually putting out someone else's car, but not for the track.

Does anyone know the minimum required rating of the fire extinguisher in your car for the event at Barber? I believe I read a 12 BC.

Nevermind. I called and spoke with someone at Barber and was told there really isn't a minimum rating for the one in the car. Just get one around 8" - 10" tall and mount it.
