Door Subwoofer replacement
#1
Here's a picture of a Rockford Fosgate Stage 1 8" subwoofer mounted in the stock door subwoofer location. I think they look great. Has anyone ever owned a pair of these speakers or know if they sound decent? I looked them up and thier pretty cheap...~70 bucks for a pair.
Thanks...Ben

Subs look nice. But as someone else has asked, don't you think the passanger might kick the subs without a grill?? I know the driver won't because he/she will be looking out for them. At least I would.

That is the reason I ordered a deluxe instead of the premium. I didn't want the shaker subs in the doors. I always open my doors by using my foot and pushing there, force of habit I'm trying to break anyway, but I'd put a foot right into the shaker in no time. Besides, I think the stock grills are ugly... don't flame me, it's just my opinion. Besides, I'm good w/ stereos, I'll build something better for less in the trunk.

I hear you John. But as for the grills on the shaker subs. I did not like them at first. They are slowly growing on me though. They have modern styling while still keeping from the futuristic look. Does that make sense?

Yeah, that makes sense. I like this car for it's retro appeal - probably why I'm not crazy about the modern style grills. Like they say, to each his own... a lot of people at FoMoCo disagree with me.

From the look of it those's RF's aren't replacements because this was is a Deluxe, and it didn't have shaker subs to begin with. This also means that the doors do not have that nice internal sub enclosure and these subs are blaring into the naked door. Which will probably rattle like crazy. One may or may not like the shaker system but those internal enclosures are a great invention and a perfect base to build a custom set upon.

I have an 8 inch RF Stage 2 in the stock sub enclosure on my 03.5 MSP. It's 4-ohm sub. It sounds really good and smooth. It hits pretty low too. I have mine mounted without the concealing ring(using stock grill) and without the removable magnet cover.

I have heard these speakers before and I have to agree they sound great. They look even better in the Mustang than in the box my friend had them placed into. I also think they go great with the upgraded dash.

I'm powering it with the stock 250 Watt Kenwood Amp. With the rear seats down it shakes my rearview mirror. Not bad for "one" 8 inch sub. I can only imagine how it would sound with "two" 8 inch subs right next to you.
