No, the door panels have to be removed. There is a 10mm bolt on the back, that goes into the magnet of the stock speaker.

Need to see what the black looked like on these! Can you post pics? I'm on the verge of buying these.

Kicker has a new CVT 8" that is a better choice than the SS's. True subs instead of midbass drivers, and their optimum sealed enclosure is the exact size of the Mustang door box. This is no coincidence according to a Kicker rep I converse with on occasion

Yeah I found those when I went to price out the head unit and really dug them... Is there something that would be better then those for this space? If not this is what I'm currently considering going with.

My only flaw with these is that I did not want the shaker 500 covers and they don't have covers so I would have to do something custom.... Any cool ideas for this? Not sure of a way I could cover them that would look neat.

I have the pioneer Slim subs now with the stock grills. But I would like to know what
other subs will fit with the stock grills?

I just put the JL W6 12" in the Q-Logic box in the trunk.

I hated the stock grills on mine, too. They were too bulbous. I've seen a few decent looking 8" grills, but I'm not sure if they're large enough. The stock woofer is actually like an 8.25", so the grill is larger than standard also. I had an idea I sent to SilverHorse, but production was going to be WAY too expensive.

I did the CVT8s, they're not a perfect fit (the sub mounting hole is not perfectly circular/round, and it's lip is irregular; worse is the depth isn't correct, had to cut out a big chunk of plastic on the backside). Sound good though.

That's what I'm talking about... apease the masses!!!

I saw those grill covers while looking thru a couple sights and I like they way they look. Was thinking about a flat black treatment (black car). Still looking though... got some time before I do any mods.

The indentation around the speaker trim is what was covered by stock grill cover...right?

I don't remember, honestly, it was too long ago I pulled it apart. The OE speaker and grille screwed into the flat flange you see above, that small circular area where the CVT8s don't cover was one of the OEM screw holes.

So they fit, but not very well, definitely not drop in.

I see, might have to create a base to fit around speaker hole... maybe a chance to add some LEDs since I don't have the mood lights. Plus this may help with the clearance issue.

No doubt would, but I'll warn you they already stick out quite a way, I hit my left foot on them all the time when getting in/out in the garage, when I can't open the door fully. The grilles are very durable painted aluminum, though, and look great overall, so no damage done, but if you add a 1/2" adapter it'll just make it further out.

I'd love to see your finished project, though. What are you going to drive them with? I stripped out the door sub amps, but used the factory wiring, and am driving them at 2 ohms, 100W per, but nowhere near that amount going into them on a regular basis as they really rattle the doors.

Glad you mentioned the leg space issue, didn't even cross my mind... I kick them all the time!!! Still gonna change them and add the lights.

Not sure about power to these since I was already warned about rattling, and I really don't want to add to much 'dynamat' to the car.

So you went completely ampless?

I have a MBQuart 2 channel amp in the trunk driving them. 4.1 driving everything else.

Where the door sub mounts to the door, how far out is the mounting suface from the actual door panel, appears to be around 1/2 inch, where the old trim ring use to go, I'd like to try and make some rings to cover all that up while out here on riverboat.

That sounds right, about 1/2", and making a thinner mount that goes directly onto the door plastic is a good idea, though with most speakers it'll force it even more towards the plastic well behind the speakers, and you'd have to cut out all that plastic. I recommend you pull it all apart first and take a good look before starting on anything.

Thanks, i am going to have some rings made ( elite installers supply ) and they are a double ring, almost like flipping a bowl over, covering all those extrusions and still use factory holes to mount to, here a pic of it.
