Door subs
Door subs
I know, i did a seach, I dont know much about stereos, doing the search i came up with the Rockford Fosgate Punch 2's http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SCADM0p...i=575P28S4#Tab that i have seen several people install. But i dont see what they are using for amps, #6fan installed and is using stock amps. What do you guys recommmend to run these two subs. I dont plan on upgrading anymore than just these, I would like more bass, but not go crazy. I have been debating about the scorche unit, but this will be cheaper, and serve my purpose well. Also, where do you guys mount the amp for these, are they too big to hide under a seat, or do they need to be in the back somewhere?
thank you

I would think anything would be an improvement over the stock ones.
Can you elaborate on who is making these and when they might be out, please....:-)
I'll e-mail and see if the one is ready to let the cat out of the bag. The second I've already been told to keep quiet as they don't want a bunch of hype until they're positive they can deliver.
ACtually, the stock ones aren't that bad- they need more power. I'm running mine off 150RMS each right now, and they sound good. I know they can't take full power, but the overhead is sure nice.
I got an e-mail back. He said it'd likely be around Labor Day before he could have them ready to sell. SO, I'd say go for something else. I have yet to find a direct replacement, and I've purchased a boatload of woofers so far. I refuse to have the things sticking out further than they already do.
I use the Pioneer slim 8" subs in the door. They fit like stock and sound great. I am running them with an after market amp though. I had to modify the stock speaker gilll a bit but they don't stic ou any further than stock.
What did you do to modify the stock grill? Is it very hard? Where did you order and which ones, specifically, did you order?
The grill is made of an inner ring and an outer ring that snaps on to the inner ring. The stock subs had an 8 hole pattern and the new pioneer slim subs had a 6 hole patern. I had to mate up the 8 hole pattern inner speaker grill ring to the 6 hole pattern sub. Once that was done the outer ring snapped on like normal. It wasn't hard. The new door subs running off of the new amps are awesome. They hit hard and have no distortion. I also upgraded my shaker subs. I will post pics and links for you next.
Pioneer Shallow Mount Sub
I have listed a link for you below to buy the Pioneer Shallow mount sub. There are other places you can get it cheaper but you can see what it looks like at the site I posted. They can handle a max of 500w with a continous 120w. They only need 2.5 inches depth for mounting and use a new air suspension system that requires no spring. It is the spring that needs the deep cone and uses up most of the depth. They are a great upgrade over the stock door subs. I am using TMA amps to drive my upgraded speakers. I put in Rockford Fozgates 6X8s in the doors and rear deck and TMA subs in the Shaker box in addition to the Pioneer slim 8s in the door. I dub it the Shaker 2000 system.
Thanks for the info. I see a pic but no link. Am I missing something? BTW, where is the factory amp for the door subs anyway? Can I just use that wiring for power, remote turn on, etc?? My knowledge of electrical stuff is limited so thanks in advance for your patience.
The door sub amps are behind the drivers side interior kick panel. The shaker 1000 amps are behind the subwoofer enclousure. The factory amps do have power and remote wires but they are hard to access because they are behind the amp in cramped spaces and they are harness wired and do not use the traditional colors that people are used to like the head unit. Go to Pioneer dot com and search for their automotive shallow mount subs.
Thanks for the info. I found a place to buy some. 2 last questions. Can these hook up to the factory amp? and 2) how did you adapt the 8 to the 6 hole? Is there an adaptor you can buy or did you just drill holes?
I don't know if they will work with the stock amp. I just lined up the inner ring and made the new holes myself. I used a bead of silicon sealant when I attached the inner ring to the speakerk also to prevent any rattles.
So you did get them!
Derek,
Can you snap me a couple of pics? I didn't want to order any more speakers without knowing they'd fit (wife would kill me- I have 11 8" drivers in the future baby-room closet
). I need one with the front grill removed, and one with the grill on it. They seem to use the same frame as the Dayton RS drivers, but the Daytons used a standard motor structure that simply wouldn't fit.

Well, i just bit the bullet, I went ahead and bought the RF punch 2's, had great reviews, and looks pretty good with the IUP. I also bought a profile amp 200Wx2 to power them. This amp had a lot of great reviews, and should be all i need.

I am aware that i will have to modify the door panels, but that is no big deal for me. setting up the amp is going to be more of a challenge.
