Which one of these would be the best overall for my car? Two component sets of speakers (JBL C508GTI) or two sets of 6x8 speakers? I know the component set comes with tweeters and a crossover but I'm not sure which would provide the best overall quality and mid-range bass. Can someone help me out please?

ok so i joined here just to answer your question. i just went to my local custom car audio shop. they gave me some good ideas. i have a shaker 500 and could not figure out what to do. so we decided jl componets in the front. mount the mids where the factory 8-inchers are in the door in a custom plate. mount the tweeters in a custom plate in the 5x7 slot in the door, with another set of tweeters. so 4 tweeters total, two where each front 5x7 were. in the back, 2 5x7 2-ways for some "fill" then a twelve in the back. i seriously think this is the best system. power is 400 watts to the sub and 600 watts for the other speakrs. i cant wait to get this system.

so to answer your question, yes use componets in front but 5x7's in the back

The components will have a higher power handling, the crossovers will give you better separation, and you can mount the tweeters higher and direct them for better imaging. It will cost you a lot more for installation (or time if you do it yourself) versus the 6x8 coaxials. If you go with components, you can just get them for the front and put a decent 6x8 in the back for rear fill. Then amp your fronts with at least 75W and your rears can get away with as low as 25W if you wanted to.

In my Explorer, I went full out with high dollar Focal components, PPI amps, and JL Audio sub. However, in my Mustang I went with just coaxials and a single amp/sub.

Alright cool, thanks a bunch for the responses. I really like the JBL component set that I can get from harman.com (UPS employee's get like 45% off JBL and Infinity products). So JBL components for the front and Infinity 6x8/5x7's in the back.

Thanks again!

You will be happy with the component setup. I have installed the JL audio compenent up front with coaxials in the back. It's amazing the difference. I mounted to tweeters in the pods where the side mirror adjustment is. I need to find a home for the power mirror switch now. I'm going to get everything ready for an update on Sunday. Check out the site in my signature begining next week.
