Just got my 07 last week. Noticed that the rear deck no longer has speaker grills like our 05 had. Has rear speakers as I can hear and see them from under side. Just no grilles, 'carpet' all the way across the rear deck. Do you have to cut the carpet to get them out?

The side panels have to be popped loose and the entire carpeted rear panel removed to access the speakers. It is just held in by the push in retainers under the upper rear seat and the side panels. Not that bad to remove. Took me about an hour to change out my speakers and put everything back together.

I have noticed that there are no speaker grills as well. Did you just have to pop loose the two side panels? How hard was it? I want to put in new rear speakers and I am not sure how to take that top panel off.

That sums it up. Since you have those panels off, add some sound deadener to any bare metal. You'll thank me later.

Wink Rear Speaker Decision

I had the Shaker 500 stereo with my '06 and was trying to figure out how to improve the bass after installing my Avic-Z1 (did the install on my own and saved myself tons of money on the install ). So I looked around and finally considered installing two 8" woofers in the rear which are connected to the stock amp. After checking prices I came across an Alpine Type R 10" in a box! I disconnected the rear speakers, cut off the factory harness, and ran just the right side wires down to the sub, works great! I need to go buy some dynamat material for the trunk now!

Here is a link to my install as well as my pics!!!

Can't go wrong using Crutchfield. The rear speakers are a ***** to get change if you have big hands. Be patient and careful and you will not damage anything.

Does anyone else find it stupid that Ford would put the speakers under the rear deck without the grills being exposed? I understand it look cleaner, but there must be some sound quality loss.

What's the spec on the stock (no Shaker) stereo head unit? I am going to get the Pioneer 4-ways for the front doors to add some sound, but the RMS is 50Watts and the dB is 91.

What is the stock setup (06)?

I've been busy this week replacing the base stereo in my car. I put in a JVC KD -HDR1 head unit and 4 Infinity Reference 6812's. I took this opportunity to install sound deadener. Can't wait to get back on the road in April or May to see how effective it is at cutting down road noise. The stereo sounds great btw!

Which deadener did you use and would you recommend it?

I used edead v1, which can be found here.....http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/index.php?cPath=24

If you put eDead BA in the coupon line, you get 20% off.

Based on ease of installation I would definitely recommend it. I won't know how effective it is until my car is back the road this Spring. I read a lot on different forums and most people are happy with it. I bought 120 feet of it, and have about 25 left.

Thanks. It looks like you got it on the doors, the back speaker deck, the trunk, and the floor. About how long did it take? I'm thinking of pulling everything out including the headliner and doing it all in one fell swoop!

I didn't do the floor....just the doors, speaker deck, trunk, and under the back seats. It took about 8 hours to do....lot's of cutting involved. I never even considered the roof....wow, you're even more **** than I am!

Doesn't deadener add alot of weight to the car? I understand the acoustics of it, but if you want the car to go fast won't the extra weight be a hindrance?

It added between 20-25 pounds, which is no big deal to me since I don't take it to the track. I'm sure the track guys here are nashing their teeth.
