Question Calling all electrical gurus!!!

So as usual, a day late, a dollar short....

Before seeing the excellent sticky about a push button starter, I went and purchased the Ford GT version.

For those unfamilar, unlike the buttons being discussed here, this comes with just two wires. The Ford specific instructions suggest cutting the green wire, which I know means I would lose the key starter, and splice into the white wire. There is no light so I assume that explains the lack of a ground wire.

I did not want to lose the key start though, so I t-tapped both the green and white wires. Guess what happens next.... NOTHING!

So my question is this... based on the wiring of this specific button, is the problem that I attempted to splice into the green wire instead of cutting it from the ignition switch connector? Or maybe just that t-tapping is not the nest way to go?

Any help would be appreciated. The button looks great, but without function... well, you know.

Hmm... does it work with the key still?

If it does, are you sure you tapped the correct green and/or white wires?

Don't start cutting wires yet, my gut is either you've tapped the wrong wire, or have a bad tap (those scotch-loc connectors suck IMO)

Dude, I'm already embarassed that I missed your sticky, you're killing me about the t-taps now.

Yea, it does still start with the key since I never cut the green wire, but I'm pretty sure there is only one green wire and one white. The others have striping. I guess the taps are the first place to start...

Yeah, they're just too unreliable IMO. I'm more comfortable w/ a little careful stripping, a tight manual connection, and securing w/ an ample amount of tape. It might not be the most professional way, but it's always worked well for me.

Just some friendly advice... be careful stripping!

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it!!! It's awful tight in there, did you have difficulties stripping the wires?

Test it before you put anything back together. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

That was it! Turns out the t-tap on the white wire never got pierced. Once I spliced it, she started right up!

Thanks again for the advice, love this mod...
