Body Vents in the Trunk

Body Vents in the Trunk
What are these used for? There is a vent on each side in the lower back area of the trunk.
I was thinking about sealing them up for an IB install.

The car needs to breathe. Doors opening/closing, air pressure changes during the day/night, and moisture removal are three items that would be affected if the vents weren't there. So don't.

An IB install will seal off the trunk from the cabin, so if they only serve to vent, they probably could be sealed up as they would only vent the trunk at that point (which is usually what you don't want in IB).
On the other hand, they may help in my case. I'm going to leave them alone for now and try sealed, unsealed, and test them as variovents also.

IB?
Houtex is right, when you close the doors they allow the excess air to escape, allowing your door to close easier and preventing additional wear on your seals. Stand by the vent and have someone close your car door and you'll see them in action.

Actually, after reading about it... you may want to leave the vents alone because, in reality, they're adding to the 'volume' of the enclosure... i.e, the world's entire atmosphere excluding the passenger compartment of your car.
Whether you leave them open or not, however, it's likely to not produce any results. You're defeating the use of them by blocking off the passenger compartment. Their only use, therefore, is the trunk... and you might want that venting so you don't blow out the cones when you close the trunk lid.
Leave them things alone, you will gain nothing by blocking them.
/My final answer, Regis.
//Again, your stuff, we don't count.
///But it's fun to kibitz.
