Best method of attaching billet

I have several pieces of billet-y goodness that I want to attach, like an Action Artistry trim ring for the door mirrors and a couple of other things. However I have a problem, the double sided tape I've received with the parts is around a 1/16th of an inch thick, so if you mount the parts with it, it sits up a little, and doesn't fit right.

How do you guys attach stuff to your cars? I've never used 3M double-sided, but I wonder if it's much thinner. I also thought about glue, but I might want to take the stuff off eventually if I get tired of the look.

Thanks for any advice.

I've used it before, but not on this kind of plastic, so I thought I'd ask. I was thinking a glue would be necessary to get the parts on as snug as possible.

just use fishing line to separate ,then try goo gone or something like that. Try small area first to test for discoloration.

i have the action artistry chrome ring for the mirror control. i just used the 3m double sided trim tape. works great. i don't notice any gap... although, i just measured it and it is about 1/16" as well.

I got Scott Drake door pin surrounds, and it's pretty obvious they don't sit right with just double sided tape. I probably should have pointed that out in the process. On the other hand, I'm not totally sold on the look, so I want to make sure it's removable without damage to the interior plastic.

might sound really ghetto, but why don't you just use some elmer's school glue? almost positive that it won't damage your plastic... won't come off unless it gets soaking wet... if it does fall off, which i doubt it will, just glue it back on.

it will hold strong enough, but should release cleanly.

i don't know... just a thought. never tried using that glue for this sort of stuff, but seems like it will work.

I just got some silicone sealant, going to see how that works. If it doesn't (I can imagine heat being a factor, not sure) then I'll think about it. lol What made you think of elmers?
