Aftermarket stereo harness HELP
Aftermarket stereo harness HELP
Ok this sounds to good to be true. I went down to my local best buy to pick up some speaker harnesses to hook up my friends aftermarket speakers to his stock wiring. I asked the installer if he had any harnesses to hook up an aftermarket head unit to the stock speaker harness. He then handed me this bag with two connectors in it and said that it would be $28
I told him to please check the books again and make sure that the harness he was trying to sell me was the harness meant for a 2006 Mustang with the Shaker 1000 system in it. He grabbed the book and we started going down the rows and what do you know, 2006 mustang w/ Shaker 1000 was the same harness he had handed me. I told him that was not possible because crutchfield was telling me i needed a harness with some RCA connections and a small box and that was $120 or $65 if i bought it with a stereo. He said he has done 4 or 5 mustangs with shaker 500 and/or 1000 systems.
Now my question is who do i believe? Should i just try the harness he is trying to sell me and take the risk that my subs might not work and i will be missing out on the $60+ savings from crutchfield if i have to buy the other harness or just play it safe and buy the whole package from crutchfield?
By the way the head units i am looking into purchasing are the Pioneer MVH-P8200 or the Alpine iDA-X305S.

When I replaced my first head unit the cheap one was all Crutchfield had and it works for most of the wiring. But you'll need to wire a voltage regulator in line to stop the amps from popping and connect a line for the display to dim when the lights come on. Also if the unit you get has the speed control volume you'll need to do some special wiring for that too , I think the one that crutch field now sells does all that for you so that it's just plug and play.
