Window trim?

Does anyone know of a source for chrome or brushed aluminum trim for the rear window, windshield and door windows? All I've been able to find is trim for the quarter windows.

Thanks for any help!

i have a convertible and i was kinda looking for the same. the trim piece that goes all the way around the car. side mirror back around the roof and to the other side mirror. the black trim piece kinda looks cheap and was wondering if anyone made a billet replacement piece.

Yeah, I think the doors especially could benefit from a billet trim.

Guys - remember that metal =/ billet. A lot of marketing "confusion" occurs because people call all sorts of metal parts billet nowadays. I hear what you're asking for, but realistically, you wouldn't want (nor would it be feasible) to produce these parts from true billet, at least on a production scale.

What you're really looking for is a stamped piece, which could be done from aluminum, and then anodized or plated to a particular finish. Stainless is another option, although it would limit your finishing options somewhat more than aluminum, and weigh more. The only problem with doing a stamping for these parts is the up-front cost to "tool" the parts - since you're talking about a large set of tools made from tool steel that would need to be made in 3D, and the expected # of sales that the tooling cost would have to be spread over, I think not too many people would like the price, at least if made here in the USA. Shipping tooling production overseas would make it somewhat more affordable, but even then, the total production #'s would still hurt the retail price, and then quality issues come into play, etc...

Not trying to poo in anyone's cereal, just pointing out that a lot of our competitors market "billet" products that while technically meet the definition from a legal standpoint (almost any metal product could do so) the reality is that they aren't what billet is really thought of in the hearts and minds of automotive enthusiasts, which is a piece machined from a solid ingot of raw material into the finished product, not stressed, bent, or cast into the final shape.

Yeah, I guess I didn't really mean billet, but rather just stamped metal. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. I can understand that a manufacturer can't afford to make a piece that just a few people will buy. With all the Mustang mods out there, I just wanted to know if someone indeed made such a product.

No problem - as a manufacturer, I just like people to know the difference, because it obviously makes a large difference in the initial cost to produce the part. For example, our cost in our bilet fuel door is about 6x that of some of our competitors, and the labor is about the same difference, yet they charge almost as much as ours - sneaky they are... So if nothing else, I was just trying to help people understand a little more about what it is they are buying / looking to buy so people can make an educated buying decision.

And yes, I personally would like what you're looking for as well, since that is how it is on my 73, unfortunately, like stated above, the tooling cost to do this right when the expected market is so small would make the cost so high I don't think you'd like us very much if we offered it. WHo knows though - given the wear/tear plastic sees, and depending upon what the refresh does to the "greenhouse" in 2010, it might eventually be a palatable investment to try and make. (so never say never!)
