What tire to get?
What tire to get?
My BFGoodrich G-Force are on the way out, and I need to get new tires.
The G-Force didn't last too long, so I would like a tire that I will get more out of, but still deliver performance (and look nice on the car).
I don't drive in winter, so snow is not an issue.
What is recommended? If it makes a difference, the tires need to be 235 50 18
Cheers

so far I've got a little over 8000 miles on them and they still look new, I don't do alot of burn outs, I do like to catch 2nd and 3rd gear when shifting,
they have a W performance rating = 168 mph 270 km/h
UTQG treadware rating of 300
traction rating of A
overall for the money I couldn't be happier.
here's a link to the Nitto website http://www.nittotire.com/index.html

I'm on my second set of Bridgestone Potenza RE960 Pole Position tires.
I got about 22k miles out of them before and the performance is EXCELLENT.
I have Nitto Invos on my GT500 but they are waaay to slippery for my taste. Don't have any experience with the 555E

I would add that I put on about 20 000 km each year. Driving I do is usually city stop and go, but I do lot's of road trips as well in the summer (maybe not so much with recent gas prices, though).
So at 22 K you had to replace them?
All season tires are going to last longer than summer tires. Performance and treadlife tend to have an inverse relationship. Which is most important to you?
I want performance, but just enough to enjoy a twisty mountain road. Longer life will be more important.
The stock pirellis, huh? P Zero Nero?
My original Pirellis have 40,000 miles on them. Probably get another set of them
I still have 2 original Pirellis on my car (they were off the car for a couple years while I had my 18s on there) I have 90k+ miles on my car, and probably 35 of those were on the 18s. That puts my original Pirellis at over 50k miles. (Keep in mind, the stock tires are all-season tires so they will last longer.)
If you want a longer treadlife, you'd be looking at high performance all season tires. If you want better performance (thus sacrificing treadlife) then you want summer tires.

And for anyone wondering about tire fitment on 18x9s... I was scrolling thru Tirerack and noticed this under several different wheel (rim) options:
18"
Front Fitment
18x8
Offset: 40mm
Backspacing: 6.10"
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Rec. Tire Size:255/45-18
Weight: 23.4lbs.
Important Notes
Est. Availability: In Stock
Optional Rear Fitment
18x9
Offset: 45mm
Backspacing: 6.81"
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
Rec. Tire Size:285/40-18
Weight: 23.8lbs.
Important Notes
Est. Availability: In Stock

Thought this might clear up some question about putting 285s on 9" rims... For rear tires (on some wheels) it is actually a "recommended" size.

Looks like I will get the Pirelli PZero Nero. It is the best price, and sounds like it will last the longest.
I have a price of $133 per tire from Tirerack. They will ship to me for $150.

If it isn't too late, I'll throw in a second for the Nitto NT555's. I just got all 4 tires replaced with these. I can't say how long they'll last since I've only had em on for a couple hundred miles. But both the treadwear rating and other people's comments lead me to believe they'll be around for quite some time if I'm not racing them.
I'd also like to point out that I've taken some hard corners already, and put them through "spirited" driving and they're inspiring nothing but confidence so far.
Lastly, they look awesome. A very appropriate tire look for our cars imho.

I will be looking for tires soon too. I have 19" wheels with the Pirellis all season tires on my 2010 GT with 13,000 miles. I can't believe they are so worn with just 13,000 miles.
I think Dunlop or Cooper supposedly designed a tire for the Roush Mustang or something like that. Anyone have any info? I don't drive in the snow but want a good rain tire and one that will have traction at low temps. The Pirellis I have now are really bad for dry traction below 45 degrees.

I just put a set of these on my GT and I love them

my vote would be for these but they cost more than the pirelli's
