I dont really want the tires to bulge out a lot, but at the same time, the 18x9's will stick out a bit farther than the stock setup.

btw, which rims are irrelevant, since I'm strictly talking from a tire to rim standpoint (but its the MB Motorsport VR5S rims)

I dont get it, do you already have the tires and are looking for rims to fill the hole?

Are you restricted to that size tire?

not restricted, but that size will keep the speedometer the same (just about)

We're in the same boat. I don't want a lot of bulge either. The 18x9 is definitely the way to go. If you get the right offset (+45mm) you're only giving up 1/2". I can live with the wheels being 1/2" farther out than the stock wheel & tire. It'll still be way inside the fender. It's the 18x9's with the wrong offset that look funny. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about as long as stay REAL close to +45mm.

the 18x9's would be +35 offset. they'd extend just shy of an extra inch. like 4/5ths of an inch more outward.

the 18x8's would be +45

I would think you'd want to go with 45mm offset.....was the previous gen not 35mm and those look like they are sticking out too far?

What offset and rim width were the fanblades? I always thought they were 9" rims but I forget the offset.

SN95's had a 25mm offset
Fanblades are 9" with a 45mm offset. Ford designed the 45mm offset for rims 9" wide or more. Thats why an 8" rim with a 45mm look kinda sunken in (at least to me)

Car's dont have a set offset, but it's more on personal taste. Ford say's it 45mm but it is really more or less that. Depending on how in or flush you want your rim with the fender. It also gives a bit of room for a deepdish, even though theres less for the 05 than there was for the 04.

um guys, why do you think the 255's will buldge out on an 18x8 rim? That is what I have on the front of my car and they look great.
