Hey, I bought a pair of H13 HID's for my 05 mustang and they dont seem to work right. They always seem to short out or something. For example, I will turn my lights on and they will both be on then like 5 seconds later either one or both will turn off and wont turn on again unless u restart the car. Sometimes they will turn off while im driving as well. Any suggestions to why this is? Also I was wondering if those colored luminics replacement bulbs that u find on americanmuscle.com are any good. They look pretty cool. Any feedback on those would be great as well. Thanks!

 

sounds like a voltage issue. the ballasts are not getting enough voltage to keep the bulb lit.

stealthauto.com has some plugnplay capacitors that you could try. i use them on my hid kit to help keep a consistent voltage to the ballast to help extend their life.

 

go get yourself a relay harness. should cure the problem.

 

Strange issue you have. I notice one of mine burst last night while driving home. What's w/ that?

 

Make sure you remove dirt/dust/oil from the capsule before using them. They're just like halogens in that you can't touch them with your fingers.

As for the ballasts, they don't need an exact voltage or capacitors. They're designed to work on a wide voltage range. They turn your 12VDC into as high as 23 kV (yes, that's right, 23,000 V) to ignite the salt/gas mixture in the capsules and then revert to ~85 VDC to keep it burning. The newer 3rd and 4th gen HIDs (such as the OEM HID on 08-up S197s) run at 40-44 V instead of 80-85 V.
