Ugly Hood Scoops
My favorite import / Rice upgrade is having wide open 20"+ rims and the original mini rotors (or drums) behind them !! I just find it funny these guys stick all this money in these Hondas, Toyotas, or whatever, and those miniture factory brake assemblies in the middle of their mega-buck wheel/tire set-up don't bother them.

Look at the 1999-2004. The original '99-00 GT & '99-02 V6 un-scooped hood looks horrible !! When they added the scoop to the Aniversary model, that was a BIG improvement for this particular hood. The Mustang public agreed ... Ford and the aftermarket have since sold tons of these scoops, with Ford finally making it std. on the GT in 2001.

US Mustang sales #s.
1999 - 166,915 - SN-95 is introduced w/o the scoop, sales are limited by productiion shorrates.
2000 - 173,676 -
2001 - 169,198 - GT hood scoop made standard, Mustang sales start to slide
2002 - 138-356 - Mustang sales tank by almost 20% as the public rejects the scoop
2003 - 140,350 - 2 years of poor sales show how the public hates the hood scoop
I had an 00 with the wing moved back 2"(the 99-01 had the best sn-95 factory wing when moved back to hang over the rear), the mach chin spoiler, the stock 'low' recess scoop on the hood and bullitt side scoop deletes. It look awesome. Everything else was hidden from view except the big brakes, wheels and basanni tips

Wow, I guess '69 Mach Is and various Shelbys are rice with those fake side scoops. Which means all those 2005 Shelby photoshops with the fake quarter scoops are rice too. Depending on your defenition of rice, the factory spoiler on the '05 could be rice because it's an appearance item that has zero performance benefits.
I like to keep the word "rice" for things much more over the top. To me, rice means making a car that is NOT fast, look fast. If you have the performance to back it up, you can have all the wings and scoops you want. Oh, and I don't care for that hood scoop either, but the hood does need something.

Just playing devils advocate.

Maybe its just me but I am wondering why a dealer with a "hot" new model they can't keep on the lot and are making $$$$ on would do this

[/b][/quote]Please don't base sales numbers on hood and side scoops. The car sold less as it got older. Happens to almost every vehicle. The car needed to move forward more than any vehicle on the road.
I had a 99 and 02 and got more compliments on the 02, fake scoops and all. Calling numerous Mustangs of the past rice is a little much.

Here are a couple of Stangs I spotted at Sunset Ford in St. Louis. For some reason, the dealership decided to put non-functional hood scoops on their Mustangs. Haven't figured out why, but I do know that I am going there tomorrow to chew someone out for this. :notnice:

Maybe I go by there next week and tell the sales manager we are all laughing at him and his joke just to make his day.

I completely agree. You would think these cars would end up sitting on the lot forever
