TPMS dilema

I may be in the wrong place, but I'm new to posting. I read about 2 hour's worth of posts on the tpms thread, but no help!
Rather than use my 07s bands on some new wheels/tires, I'm thinking of buying, I want to use the existing sensors on new 2010 take-off wheels/tires on my 2007 Mustang. Will the 07s dash computer pick up the signal from the newer style sensors? If so, I take it I'll need to reflash them with a special tool?
I read that a lot of you bought one on ebay, but every link available I followed was expired. Does anyone have a recent source or link?

Also, I have only seen pictures, but the 2010 Premium V6 wheels look somewhat different than the 2007s stock ones, is that correct? Thanks in advance for any help.

I understand the new, valve mounted sensors on 2010+ Mustangs is not compatible with the receiver system on the '07-'09 Mustangs that used the band-mounted sensor.

Thanks, Vic. That's what I need to know. How sure are you? I can still pull off my band sensors on the 16's , get new 17" bands, and re-program - right?

Yes, this will work and the best deal on bands is also at AM as their bands run like $29/pair.

All correct, the newer ones use a different frequency than the stupid band ones on the 05-09. You can also get take off sensors on ebay for cheap, some of the vendors sell them with new bands. The new sensors are pricey. It's actually quite simple to swap them over, I helped the dude at DiscountTire do mine, he'd not seen them much before (this was a few years ago).

Thanks for the link. Looks like if I can't use the 2010 sensors, I'll have to dismount the tires and install my '07 ones I already have. But now another question... I hear the sensors have a battery with a life of 5-6 years. Seems like if I switch them over and I have over 4 years on mine, I should replace them. Anyone know how this is done?

IIRC the batteries are not replaceable. When the batteries in the TPMS sensors die, you replace the whole sensor. I haven't heard any widespread reports of the sensors/batteries failing, IMHO, just reinstall your stock sensors in the new wheels and call it a day.

If you re-use your existing sensors you won't even have to reprogram. All you'll need is the new bands. Since I was selling my old wheels/tires I just bought the complete kit from AM that included new bands, Ford sensors, a reprogramming tool, and a video instruction guide. Pretty good deal and WAY cheaper than buying from Ford. I attached the new sensors and bands, had the tires mounted, swapped wheels and reprogrammed the sensors with no problems. Then, sold the old set as the next guy could just mount and reprogram them on his Fusion.

they do sell 2010-11 style tpms valve mounted sensors that are specifically designed to work with the 05-09 mustangs. it can be used instead of the band-type sensor.

i am having trouble finding it now. i saw it and thought, "good to know", but i didn't bookmark it. i will continue to try finding it.
