I've noticed alot of members running Toyo Proxes II tires. I stopped by my local
tire dealer to inquire. I was told by the salesperson that these tires are for Light trucks.
Is this case and if so how are they working out for everyone using them? I purchased 20" Foose
Nitrous rims and was thinking of going with the following tire combo 255/40/20 - 295/40/20.
Any input would be greatly appreciated to help with my decision.

 

Sprint - Buy the tires! You got two owners saying they are good to go. So what if they are "titled" for Light Trucks. Ask the Salesperson to define the material, quality, tread, and compound differences, bet he can't. I have mud and snow tires on my Cutlass, but don't drive in the mud or snow. I'm in the 14's for the 1/4 mile and constantly in the 100-120 mph range on the German Autobahns . . . No problems and they ride nicer than stock.

If Toyo ever figured out that allot of Mustang owners are running (or wanting to run) these sizes, then they would probably re-label them as "Toyo Proxes GT's" or "Toyo Proxes Ponies".

Another funny thing, I asked the servie writer at Ford his opinion and he did not like the Toyo and recommened Nitto. The tire sales guy said Nitto are Toyo's but a lesser grade. It's funny to here some of the opinions out there. As for your opinion I'm going to go with the Toyo's. One additional question how is the mounting of these tires on the rim. Agan the tire guy (not a positive individual) says he has issues with mounting your size tires to the rims.

 

Nitto's are historically performance Summer tires only. The Toyo Proxes S/T's are all season's and last longer. Although they are all season tires, I still switch to Extreme Winters in the winter for best possible traction on snow and ice.

If you do tire research on tire size spec's for specific size rims, you will see they are within recommended limits.

I've found it best to do research first, then ask questions, that way you have a working knowledge of the subject and can tell within the first minute if somebody is talking out of his "3rd point of contact" or not.

Yes, the Proxes in this size are considered light truck tires....Call em what you want, I love em. I took Nitto 555's off in favor of the Proxes, and will not look back....

As far as fitment on the rim sizes you are going with, i.e. 8.5 and 10, don't worry about it. Perfect fitment. You will not have any issues...
