Hello,

Im trying to decide on which wheel and tire package to go with. I see the Bullit package 18x9/18x10 is around $1400, while the Shelby Torq Thrust which is about $1600. I don't mind paying the extra money if it's worth it. Does anyone have any opinions between the two brands?

I think with the Shelby Torq Thurst you are paying extra because American Racing had to pay to use the Shelby name

 

I bought the american racing 18x9 dd, and gotta say:
1) Love the look.
2) what a junk wheel.

one took 4.5 ounces to balance, had them break it down and spin the tire, still took 4 ounces in the same spot. grey paint already coming loose at one spoke. American racing/higher load rating, figured worth the extra$- made in china right on the box...had to have the look, put them on anyway, but if theres ever a way to get a american made quality wheel that looks as good, I'll be pitching these...shoulda just bought the cheaper ones from the internet maybe?

I might just be too picky about wheels (have worked for a shop that machines 100% machined/forged wheels for almost 30 yrs- I'm in the machine tool rebuilding end of things) but the chinese wheels scare me...
sadly I bet they are ALL chinese now- anyone bought shelbys (cast) that knows where they come from...I KNOW where the forged ones come from, we ran them for quite some time...had they made a 18 that looked like the 20 I probably would bought those, just dont like the shelby 18" forged look at all, and while loving the look of the 20x10 WHEEL, dont personally care for the 35 series tire look...

on the 18x10 bullitts...from what Ive found in tire sizes, you will probably want to lower the car...I went 18x9 just because there is a 27.1" tire for it, maintaining the still large but not awful original tire clearance...
lower profiles I think might look a bit smallish if not lowering, but not a chance here...smaller tire+ lower body on axle= no speedbumps...theres one at church I already have to creep over to keep my exhaust from scraping even at stock ride height...just something to think about if youve got any obstacles to cross regularly...Look at 'MTAS's car in here- in my opinion, that is THE perfect stance...springs/wheels/tiresizes, all perfect, but I just cant go that low, much as I'd have liked to...the 18x9 w/27.1 tires will fit all the way around and maintain OEM clearance, the looks not exactly what I wanted (MTAS's) but as close a compromise as I felt I could live with...

 

Id go with the Torq Thrust if you can afford them I have 18x9inch deep dish Bullitts on my car and the black paint started chipping off the very first day I put them on.

 

There is only 1 American Racing Torque Thrust wheel....but many versions of the Bullitt wheels.....which Bullitt wheels are you talking about?

Post a pic of them so we know exactly which one you are referring to.

I always thought the AM's had too much curve to them compared to factory.

 

Hmm.. They look the same to me. I have the torque thrusts on my deuce coupe but they are all polished. I love 'em. I'd say go with either..

 

I have the A/R Shelby Torq-Thrust DD wheels and have had no issues what-so-ever. I have seen quite afew DD wheels and haven't seen anything that I like as well as the A/R's. JMO~

 

Wow, those look great, I think I'm sold. What size tires are you running? How long have you had them for?

 

These are 18X9 and I have had them for a couple of years. I'm running Nitto 555 tires 255/45 on all four corners.

 

Hi - After using these Mustang forums over the last couple years to acquire info...time to give back a bit :-)

I just got my set of Shelby Torq Thrust M in Black, and so glad I went with them (and, I'm in Canada - so, costs quite a bit more unfortunately).

I went with 18 x 9 all around, as I was told the 18 x 10 stick out from the wheel well a bit - not a look I wanted personally. These sit flush with the top of the wheel well (versus the stock ones that sit in the wells a bit)...even without going 18 x 10, it still looks far more aggressive.

If it's not obvious, the ride height is stock...I personally think the gap looks worse in photos than in person - and the 18" size looks perfect for the car.

Thanks for the info! So the 18x10 shelby's stick out? I've seen pics of bullitt wheels from various sites and they look flush, does anyone have any pics of the 18x10 shelby?

 

I should clarify - I didn't see for myself if rear 18 x 10 stick out any, I was told that and didn't want to take the chance (not to mention, wanted same size all around for other handling reasons, etc).
